This DVD contains the usual assortment of gambling related sketches that you would expect from the folks at Banzai, but the pleasant suprise was the interactive nature of the DVD.

Rather than just have a 90 minute best of version of the show transferred to DVD, a good portion allows you to make selections with the DVD remote, and "place your bets now" in the comfort of your own home, for up to two players.

A fair amount of work has gone into this, once again Banzai have pulled something out of the hat that is new and original.

If that doesn't appeal to you, there is also a batch of material in the standard format to satisfy the couch potatoes, not requiring any input at all.

And of course, being a DVD, there are extras that never made it onto TV, including some "too rude for TV" bits.

Minus one star because basically, though the content being up to the usual standard, is still largely from the first two series of the show.

Worth the money for Banzai fans, but newcomers to the show may be left scratching their heads. Betting Ends!

I remember watching spoof Japanese gameshow Banzai on my cable channels at home late at night about four years ago and how much it used to make me laugh. To me it was the best show on TV. I was dissappointed when they took it off air.

However I found this DVD in my local WHSmiths and, remembering how funny it was I bought it. After that I nearly split my rib cages open with laughter for the whole afternoon. The challenges are wacky. The commentary is hilarious as so are all the characters like Lady One Question and Mister Shake Hands Man.

Get it.

Bet at home fun 15 Feb 2007
Format:DVD
A chance to see highlights of the first two series' of Banzai, the hilarious Japanese style betting television show shown by Channel 4 at the turn of the millenium.

The show is meant to be a spoof of the kind of television you can enjoy if you live in the Land Of The Rising Sun. However, this DVD doesn't give you the feel of the television shows, as it is a compilation of some of the better bets from the programme.

You get to see a few Mr. Shake Hands Man and Lady One Question segments, rather than all of them. Seeing all of them would become far too repetitive.

You get only a suprisingly low amount of the bets involving minor celebrities. I would have liked to see more of them on the disc.

You don't have to just sit there and watch though, there are sections where you can use your DVD player remote to place bets. This works best if you have someone else watching to bet against as it keeps your score as you go along. There are also animated bets which, if you win three in a row, allow you access to additional special features.

For me the whole fun of the show was the minor celebrites being made to do ridiculous things. Without this it is not as watchable and loses a star for that. It is also quite short at just over an hour and a quarter, and if you are watching by yourself then the whole betting at home thing is wasted. One to watch with some mates.
