4.0 out of 5 stars Very well written and very entertaining, 30 Jun 1999

I found this book a very entertaining read during a recent holiday in the sun. Marc Blake created strong characters and kept a complex story line moving at a fast but enjoyable pace. Well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pass the Zoltan will you?, 13 Dec 2001

I must admit I find amazon odd sometimes. Or more specifically, I find the reviews odd. I personally found this book thoroughly entertaining and was actually quite disappointed to finish it. I don't quite understand how books like the long midnight of Barney Thompson can be rated at 5 stars and a book like this only 4. Lets put it down to differing tastes shall we?

I thought enough of it that I bought Marc Blakes other two books on the strength of it. Although they didn't live up to the standard set by sunstroke, they were still thoroughly entertaining.

Sunstroke itself is probably never going to be studied by generations of future literature students as a masterpiece, but this in itself is a shame, as there seems to much emphasis on craft rather than entertainment these days. The ending is perhaps a bit predictable, but the characters are wonderful. Personally, I would say read it. It's really very good!

3.0 out of 5 stars Take it on holiday with you., 15 Nov 2001

This book is best read abroad. If you read this book on your hols especially anywhere they speak spanish you'll love it.
I wouldn't class it as "a lads book" although it deals with sex, porn, drugs and gangsters, but who said those were solely the property of men?
Good "little" twist but a bit of a daft ending for the main geezer and girl.

Not the best book I've ever read(that was Mr.Commitment by Mike Gayle), but a bloody good read abroad.
If I haven't made myself clear,
TAKE THIS BOOK ON HOLIDAY WITH YOU!
