Fresh & uplifting 23 Sep 2008
Format:Audio CD
Reading Clive Palmer's biography I finally decided to buy "Sunshine possibilities" by the Famous Jug Band, if only for the remark that it contained one of Palmer's best songs.
"Sunshine possibilities" has a fine title, and it brings exactly that - this is an uplifting and refreshing collection of songs (partly "trad." and partly self-penned) and while it's not a real classic it is certainly well worth your attention if you like the Clive Palmer's work or if you're interested in folk music with a twist.
And why the hesitation to purchase "Sunshine possibilities"? I got hold of "O for summer" first, and that stopped me in my tracks. But where "O for summer" can be embarassing with its "for old times sake" results and a few off-key vocals, this first record by the Famous Jug Band is in stark contrast a very satisfying record and very much recommended.

An Eccentric Offshoot of Folk 10 Jun 2000
By Andrew Shaffer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
A highly original recording by a very short-lived esoteric folk outfit from the turn of the 1970's. While it should be noted that the ever-enigmatic Clive Palmer, founder member of the Incredible Sring Band, is featured here, complete with two original out-there, but wonderfully crafted tunes, it's the vocals Jill Johnson that stand out the most. Although only 18 at the time of this recording, her voice conveys a passion and wisdom of someone who has lived and died and come back as a spirit, boundless in energy and enthusiasm. The lush acoustic arrangements defy classification, an eclectic blend of so-called early music, ragtime, folk, bluegrass, folk-rock, blues and, yes, jug music. The songs, as a whole, are obscure, moody, somewhat chaotic at times, oddly serene at others, which is great if you're into the mystic, neo-acid folk in the String Band tradition, but off-putting, perhaps, to those seeking a more traditional sound. This is an experimental record in the truest sense.

brilliant clive palmer songs 14 Dec 2002
By B. Hill - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I first heard Nicholson Sqr and Leave Must Fall when a student in the early 70's. These songs have a naivity and depth of emotion rarely conveyed in song and taught me much about the power of simplicity and craft in songwriting.

I am ordering this album on the back of hearing these two songs again.
