My five year old asked for a bible for Christmas. I was hesitant about buying one of the 'children's illustrated' style bibles as I felt she would soon outgrow it. This has been perfect for reading aloud. The language is straightforward and it has some nice illustrations. My daughter loves it and it will last her for some time to come.

This is a really good way to introduce someone to the bible. The text is modern and accessible, the illustrations are fresh and clear and the additional notes are very helpful. Ignore the bitter atheist who has also pretended to write a review - the errors in his text show that he obviously hasn't read this particular version. Yes, some of the material is difficult, because this is a real story, unexpurgated and gritty. If you want an easy read full of fluffy bunnies and invariably nice people, I suggest you try the children's section! However, if you want a book that will help you to find meaning and direction in your life then here's a great place to start. Oh yes, don't just read it alone - find some christian friends and share your journey of exploration with them. I strongly recommend it.

We use this edition of the Good News Bible for our 7-11's. In truth, it's a struggle for some of the 7 year olds, but we persist because it is actually a Bible that could continue to be of use to them for the rest of their lives.

I would recommend this bible for people who don't spend much time reading, or for whom English is a second language. It contains God's word in full, faithfully translated in to simple English,

Not suitable for children - I agree with the suggested 15 rating
I am a volunteer 'paired reader' at a local school - I listen to a child of age 9 or 10 reading. The child chooses the book they wish to read - today a child brought his own copy... Read more

Quite negative in places
While this book has produced quite a lot of cultural references still used in the modern world, there are ample examples of negativity, especially in Act 1 ('The Old Testament'). Read more

Not Suitable for Children
This book upset my kids. Not sure that murder, rape, death are really suitable topics for the 7 to 11s. I tried Roald Dahl instead. The BFG is probably the finest book ever written

My review of the 'New Testiment'
