I bought the Ventura 400 simply because it ticked off pretty much everything on my tent must-have list. Basically I needed a tent that was or included:
1. tunnel shaped - stand up well to high winds 2. roomy enough to live in should bad weather descend 3. lightweight - the bigger the tent, the heavier/bulkier it becomes 4. standing room - I'm done with crawling on my knees 5. dark sleeping area 6. simple to pitch, single-handedly if necessary 7. reasonably priced 8. minimum of 2000HH - the Ventura is 3000HH 9. SIG - done with crawling AND drafts 10. living area needed to be light coloured or with lots of windows 11. anti-bug mesh on windows/doors 12. spacious bedroom pods 13. separate bedroom pods 14. air vents 15. idiot proof
The above is what you get with the Ventura. I'm not an idiot by the way, I just figured that the more idiot-proof the tent, the more chance I'd got of my teenage daughter not mucking up the pitch is she came with me. Anyway, it's more than fit for purpose, it's incredibly easy to pitch and if you nail it down right it's not going anywhere.
The size might become irksome to someone with a 2 adults, 2 children family (we're two adults one teen that sometimes comes, and one dog), as it really is better suited to 3. That said, at 3.3m wide, it's plenty generous and compared to some of the five berths you're getting the same if not more interior space.
The bedrooms are great - nice and dark on a morning, and like I said previously, the 3.3m width is a bonus when it comes to the sleeping arrangements. There are also some other nice little touches - a cable entry point, huge windows and storage pockets aplenty.
Cons? None, not really. You're buying a pretty spacious 4 man tent, one that's high in quality and design. Sunncamp are no tin-pot company when it comes to tents and if I HAD to offer a con it would be this: why on Earth was this tent discontinued? If you can get your hands on a new one for under £100 you're laughing. Recommended if you're looking for a top quality tent that's spacious yet lightweight, and packed with the kind of features you'd normally find on far more expensive models.Read more ›
