Product Description

Product Description

Unlike most green and black olives, sunita black kalamata olives are a deep, rich aubergine in colour. When they are soaked in vinegar or brined, they may appear almost dark brown or black. On the tree, these purple almond-shaped fruits are hard to miss because of their beautiful colour. They also tend to pack more meat than the average black variety.

Ingredients

Olives, Water, Salt, Vinegar and Olive Oil (trace).

...but to be fair, these are good enough. They are indeed, very salted, a good thing once opened because they should keep well in their brine, chilled, for some time though not indefinitely, like anything is these days.

A tip is to soak them, changing the water several times, for edible salad/starter olives, and for cooking in sauces, stews, breads, etc, change the water only once or twice.

I don't often buy Kalamata, so could not comment on their taste. They're nice olives, with a good 'olive-y' taste, but no, they did not blow me away.

One is pleased to report, unlike other olives, they are a breeze to pit with a good pitter. Alas, some were overripe and mushy, but generally, most were still firm, like a good olive should be. For the trouble soaking them, not sure I would buy these again. My usual buy of brined olives are fine eaten out of the jar, but naturally, keep less well (but still 2 weeks at least, in their brine and jar, chilled).

A fair price for what your get, though I would pay more for something more special.

disgustingly salty take the skin of your tongue but if you soak them overnight in a liter of water they became absolutely delicious only 4 star because of the excessive salt

Me and my husband are Greeks who live in the UK. These are excellent quality olives and are exactly like the Kalamon we ate when we lived in Greece. We love Kalamata Olives (or Kalamon) and really missed them here in the UK so were really pleased to find these and at such a great price.
Would recommend without a doubt.
Bravo to the sellers!

I tried many brands of olives from supermarkets and never liked any one of them. I saw this on amazon and gave it a try.
It is really salty but if you soak it in water for a few hours and put few ml extra virgin olive oil in it, it is much better than many supermarket expensive brands. I am familiar with this brand as well. Buying again!

Olives are always salty but the amount of salt in these olives is phenomenal! I followed giampa's advice and soaked them in water overnight. This helped but there was still a bit too much salt for my taste. Which is a great pity because these olives are good quality otherwise.

The packet, as shown, describes these olives as Kalamon (not Kalamata) and doesn't list any herbs in the ingredients. Amazon have slipped up a bit in their description!

I read other reviews and agree they are not as large as expected. However, once washed then marinated in extra virgin olive oil and sprinkling of herb de provence for at least 3 weeks they are really good and very good value for money compared with the shop bought for 100g. if you are an olive love you will love these

I have always been very pleased with these olives, however, the first packet that I have opened from the new delivery, were not up to the standard that I have been used to. I will reserve further judgement until I open the next one.
