About the Artist

Good for Saturday nights as well as Sunday evenings, Maxi Jazz, Rollo and Sister Bliss are the holy trinity at the centre of the U.K. electronic dance collective Faithless. Catapulted to fame by their 1996 banger 'Insomnia', the group went on to play almost every stage, club and festival known to man. Twice. Music On Vinyl is now releasing their second album, Sunday 8PM, on 180 grams audiophile vinyl. On it, Maxi Jazz's reverent flow managed to produce 'God Is A DJ', not just a dance anthem, but a hymn of majestic proportions. The audience at the Dutch festival Pinkpop went so wild to the song that the band decided to use live footage of the concert in their video, a plea for togetherness devoid of false sentiment and schmaltz. Sunday 8PM is a prime example of dance music at the peak of its popularity, but don't let nostalgia fool you; this album still stands today even in one of the most changing and evolving music genres we know.

Who says that electronic music cannot have soul. Full to the brim of soaring anthems and soulful reflections, `Sunday 8pm' is a genuine step forward for Faithless from their debut `Reverence'. The song writing has unquestionably moved to a more coherent and mature standard which can only be a good thing. This Album has atmosphere and depth, and reflects a feeling of observation of new experiences plus reflection upon familiar yet distant situations. The only track that for me does not fit in is `hour of need' which has a lazy drum machine dominated feel that does not fit in with the musical direction of the album. Highlights are the pleading `bring my family back', tour diary inspired `postcards'(dido guest vocal), majestic instrumental `take the long way home', the amazing musical journey of `god is a DJ' - the intro of which still sends a chill down my spine - and the beautiful title track nestled right at the end of the album.

`Sunday 8pm' confirmed two things at the time of release. Firstly, Faithless were not just your average one hit album dance music band. Secondly, the song writing and musicianship of Faithless stand head and shoulders above the chart orientated cheesy chart trance music released by other dance acts around the same time, such as `atb', `darude' et al...

This is one of my all time favourite albums by any artist which has only improved over time, and like any favourite, is a CD that I return to now and again and rediscover just how inspirational and complete `Sunday 8pm' is. If you buy this you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not play in the car 3 May 2004
By Toby
Format:Audio CD
I just love this album. Owned it since it's first release and still play it constantly.
I've had to ban it from the car though, as I can't play "god is a dj" without exceeding every speed limit known to man.
Play "postcards" and you feel you're on the bus with the band.
There's not a weak track on the album. so if you haven't got it, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! 3 Feb 2002

What can I say?
I have all of Faithless' albums except Back to Mine and I can say that this is by far the best. It switches from chill out in The Garden to the club classic tune God is a DJ, which is reason enough to buy the CD! You have fantastic songs with Bring my Family Back and the superb Take the Long Way home. Other tracks I like include Sunday 8PM, Postcards, Killers Lullaby and Hour of Need.
This does not mean that any of the other Faithless albums are no good, but this provides the true sound of Faithless. Stunning

5.0 out of 5 stars a faultless hour 25 July 2005
Format:Audio CD
i am a huge faithless fan, but only have been for about a year. this is the last one of their albums that i bought. it is undoubtebly one of the finest hours in music (but not the best if you've seen my other reviews lol) anyway, the album is a lot more chilled than their insomnia days, with only a couple of fast paces tracks (god is a dj, bring my family back remix). the rest of the album is superb. stand out tracks include take the long way home, possibly my favourite faithless track ever. its mix off chillout and club is utterly superb. killers lullaby is a great mix of vocals and music, and the album even features a version of why go, with boy george on vocals! go on, give it a try!

This Album is absolutly amazing, although if your expecting 11 tracks of thumping house music you wont find it here. However 'God is a DJ' and 'Take the long way home' will keep you happy if thats what you want. There are several different styles explored on this album, including guest vocals from Boy George and Dido. There are a couple of song that have been used in recent TV commercials too, including the lastest Orange mobile phone add. This album is essential to every collection and has something for everyone. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars ............... 24 Dec 2003

Format:Audio CD
what a great album. anyone who likes dance will already have this and if they dont they obviously aren't into dance a lot. however, even if you dont particuarly like dance i urge you to purchase. i mostly listen to rock music but, on first listen, was stunned by the craft of this quartet (now a trio). all of their albums are of high quality and a range of styles are covered on all of them. god is a dj is superb and for me even beats insomnia, what a tune. this is my church.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Good 18 Dec 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is a brilliant album, fact. Sunday 8pm has such a wide variety of songs, and yet it blends together so smoothly that you barely notice as Sister Bliss' (classically trained) piano loops fade in and out.
This album was made at a time when Maxi Jazz's lyrics meant something, and Dido's voice was effective.
Blissful, emotional, energetic... whatever you say, you can relax and barely notice the changes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for every mood 9 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you are (like me!) lucky enough to own the double CD that includes Saturday 3am, you will agree that this is an outstanding Album. It has such a variety of songs, you cannot help but love it. Faithless is so much more than the tunes you hear mixed, re-mixed and totally overplayed, such as Insomnia and God is a DJ. Saying that, Saturday 3am is a brilliant funky remix of Sunday with 1 or 2 bonus tracks thrown in including the fantastic Thankyou. Reverence (with double CD Irreverence) is another cracker.
