5.0 out of 5 stars Summer Bliss! 21 Aug 2011
Format:Audio CD
Cicada have been around for a while now and inbetween remixing for the likes of Dannii and Editors along with Many others they have released 2 Amazing albums and now they release their 3rd 'Sunburst'.

The album is VERY VERY good and shows a real progression from their 1st album, they retain their familiar indie/dance/pop sound but have really fine tuned everything and created an album that contains Dancefloor Destroyers( 'Your Love' 'Dont Stare At the Sun') to more indie pop( 'Hit my Ego' 'Come Together') And even a funk edged latino style crossover 'Woh'.

They have a unique style but always retain a pop sensibility to their vocal tracks.
Heres a track by track summary:

1. intro - introduces the album.....nuff said!!
2. Come Together - A real indie pop stomp that ticks all the right boxes!
3. Hit My Ego - Featuring Athletes Joel Potts on vocals - this is a really catchy electro indie pop gem which is fast becoming my favourite track on the album.
4. Fast Cars - Hypnotic Vocal Track which reminds me of earlier Cicada, some great breakdowns.
5. Woh! - probably my 2nd favourite on the album, this sounds great out in the sunshine with a real old skool piano based hook.
6. Your Love - This is a real dancefloor destroyer, great vocals and a Huge pounding bassline!
7. Magnetic - This was an instrumental before now with eastern styled vocals, very bassy and a bit trippy!
8. Tokyo - A bit of a change in style for cicada here, quite minimilist but very catchy track.
9. Sunburst - Really hypnotic title track, a real slow builder!
10. Dont Stare At The Sun - Actually from the last album Roulette but has been remixed to perfection! sounds absolutely incredible and is my favourite on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album. 4 Sep 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'm an avid Cicada fan and as soon as the preorder was available for Sunburst, I made sure I placed mine.

This album has lived up to my expectations and more. I have not stopped listening to it since I got it which is always a sign that an album is brilliant! (Seriously, I listened to it about seven times in a row yesterday alone!)

When I first started listening my fav songs were Come Together, Hit My Ego, but now Woh! and Fast Cars are on repeat. However I love, love, love Tokyo - there is something about this song... it's an instrumental and it reminds me of water, or rain... or a river. I don't know... something 'flowing' anyway. :)

In short, it's a brilliant album. Slightly different in direction than the previous ones but still trademark Cicada. Excellent!

PS. If you buy Sunburst from iTunes you get two extra tracks ('In The Am', and a remix of 'Come Together'). With music I really like I always prefer to own the actual CD, and the artwork on the cover of Sunburst is gorgeous. I ordered from Amazon, and downloaded the extra tracks from iTunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the same as Roulette, but almost as good 15 Aug 2012

I bought Cicada, then Roulette, and was hopeful for more of the same with Sunburst.

On the first couple of listens, it's similar to Roulette, but more Scissor Sisters.

After a few more plays, Cicada starts to shine through, and my initial disappointment removed.

Be brave, Cicada fan, you will be rewarded through patience.

I love all of Cicada's work and what I am enjoying about their latest offering, Sunburst, is that on a first listen, I loved it but there are so many layers to this album and hidden depths, that by the tenth listen, I felt like I'd un-earthed a very beautiful musical gem indeed! Such an eclectic mix of vocals/styles and emotions on this album and it's clear that a lot of thought, care and effort has been put into this project! I was wowed by some of the tracks in particular, my favourite one being Track 9 - Sunburst, with exquisite vocals from Athlete's Joel Pott. Sends shivers down my spine every time. Fast Cars is the ultimate driving song and Tokyo makes me want to get on a plane immediately and travel! There are so many little twists and turns in Sunburst (including a soul-stirring intro to Woh! - thanks Cicada for making some really fabulous music!

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is heidrun? 20 Oct 2011

Format:Audio CD
Weakest of the albums to date I feel and sadly lacking their tradeMark Scandinavian female lead singer who is only on 1 track. Still enjoyable overall but feels a little lacking compared to the first 2 albums

So Cicada are back with their album Sunburst. My initial excitement was a little blunted upon realising that the female vocalist we came to know and love in their first two albums has taken a step out of the mix. However, after a few plays the album grew on me and I could appreciate some of the interesting angles the album seems to explore.

It's current, with some subtle retro-synth vibes along the way, maintains the Cicada style but also tried to show they can be a little different.

All-in-all a good album.
