The Great British Holiday is back in and this book is a rare and comprehensive study of its history and finer points. It's a fascinating subject and I bought the book because I was writng an article about it. It's not a huge tome and I think there is room for a bigger book but, rather than being a great read, its very useful to dip in and out of. Also a great memory jogger for those that used to day trip to the English Coast in the summer. I've since found two local books, one entirely on piers and one entirely on beach huts. Sun, Sea and Sand whetted my appetite for more information on these and other subjects. Having spent a few years in Croatia, working with the tourism industry there ( Croatia Cruising Companion (Wiley Nautical)
, it's intriguing, reading Sun Sea and Sand, to see how holiday fashions have turned full circle over a few decades.
