Great device 8 Dec 2011
By Adrian
Great device - works with multiple Windows and Mac OSX computers connected to external 1TB drive. Declares itself on ZeroConf/Bonjour, so Mac's just see it.

Beware - I purchases two of these devices - they both have exactly the same MAC network address, which cannot be modified. So NO chance of having more than one of these on a particular local network at once.

As well as having default MAC addresses, in certain circumstances, it also pretends to be another device on the local network, causing that other device to appear unresponsive. For some reason, it responds over TCP/IP as if it was the other device, which confuses your computer. So beware - it does not always behave well on the network.

I also tried a Addonics NAS 3.0 - bad experience with NTFS - trashed data. At 3 times the price of this AeroLite, you have to question whether it is worth it! It just works (but limited to FAT32 - so no very large files).

I've been using this NAS adapter for a few weeks now, and overall I'm very pleased with it. It works straight out of the box and the web interface is intuitive and easy to navigate.

Main Pros:

- Easy to use
- Silent operation
- Able to provide power to 2.5" Portable HDD, so have a low-power, silent NAS solution
- Integrates well with XBMC

Below are the shortfalls I have ran into:

- FAT32 restriction is somewhat limiting, but not unknown when I bought it.
- The FTP server function provides Read/Write access, NOT Delete/Amend, which means if I wish to move files using my iPad / Android I cannot (move requires delete permissions).
- A handful of times the NAS has become unreachable, choosing only to boot correctly without a HDD plugged in. I've found the only way to get things working again is to access the HDD via a PC and delete the "BT" folder and "UPNPCFG" files from the HDD. This seems to solve the problem.

In summary, for the money this device is very impressive and offers much of the functionality of more professional solutions (Qnap & Synology). Sure there are limitations and a few hiccups but nothing that justifies the huge price difference between this and its alternatives.
