Product Description

The Summit Photofix SP5 copier has a built in 2.4 inch Colour TFT screen, Li-Ion battery and SD card slot, enabling you to copy negatives and slides whilst at home or with friends and family with no computer required.

Copying images from film to digital could not be easier; Simply place your film into the supplied carrier, insert it into the slot on the Photofix copier and you can instantly browse through your images on the SP5 colour screen. For viewing negatives there is a convenient switch to make the image appear corrected to positive for easy viewing before copying. Black & White mode can also be selected to make copies of your colour negatives and slides into Black & White digital files.

To make a digital copy of an image, simply press the copy button and it will be instantly digitized and saved on to an SD card which can be transferred later to your computer via the supplied USB cable, or viewed directly on a digital picture frame.

Once transferred to your computer, Images can then be shared through popular networking sites, emailed, archived or printed. The built in Li-Ion battery gives you the freedom to copy images whilst at friends and families homes with no need for a PC and could even be used to copy their cherished memories to an SD card to put straight into a digital photoframe as a gift. Whilst at home the built in battery gives you the freedom to copy images wherever it is most convenient, rather than having to take your films to your PC or simply whilst you are in a different room to your computer at home.

I read a review on this which stressed that it is not a real stand alone scanner, quite true! However using it with my Mac Book Pro I found it fast and accurate. I did not need the instruction and the software is not up to much but again not needed. I scanned over 2000 slides, in spare moment over 3 weeks, dating back to the 60s which were in less than perfect condition. The Summit's auto focus is fast and accurate but having a manual loading system do not be tempted to rush the process (picture of me looks even more frightening with ghost like legs fading off to the left). Overall I am happy with my purchase. One note is that it is just not 35mm slides but any of the old film formats that were used for slides though a bit of trimming will be required.

Good piece of kit 10 Nov 2010

I bought this for my father-in-law who doesn't own a computer but after reading previous reviews we ordered a usb adapter at the same time so as soon as he recieved the item he was up and running in no time. He found it easy to use and was very pleased with the quality of the images. As you can now image I am in his good books (for now anyway).

Excellent piece of equipment. Everyone who has slides to download to PC needs one. Quality of pictures very good. The only criticism is that the makers forgot that some slides are square and did not create an appropriate slider!

Buy the unbranded version for half the price

As it comes, not stand-alone.

It all seems good at first look, but then try looking for the manual. Oh. It's on a cd-rom. That's very useful with no computer! Read more
