One of the finest female vocalists and performers of the modern age, Kathy Dawn Lang is also a songwriter of huge talent and an incomparable interpreter of the songs of others. Having to date recorded 13 studio albums across an incredible 27 years in the business, she is also one of the most consistent artists working today. This rare broadcast from 1993 was recorded at the Soundstage Studios in Chicago in front of a small studio audience and broadcast simultaneously on the PBS network. Featuring a varied set including hits such as Constant Craving , Miss Chatelaine and Trail Of Broken Heats , as well as a solo version of Roy Orbison s Crying, the song she had duetted on with Roy so gorgeously a few years before, the set also contains several surprises, a few rare covers and songs she hadn t performed live for many years. Bonus cuts come from a variety of TV broadcasts, including those originally from the Tonight Show, Letterman and Saturday Night Live. Great sound throughout and a marvellous collector s item for K.d. s millions of fans, these previously unreleased broadcasts can t help but get toes tapping across the globe.
Dated sound technology notwithstanding this is a wonderful collector's item featuring gems such as, among others, Riding the Rails , Johnny Get Angry - listen for the spectacular crescendo(?) ending, easily missed,- and the l..l...l... speech- a treat and a one-off. The artist's connection with her audience is warm, reciprocal and always humorous.
I implore others not to buy this album. I buy k.d.Lang's albums because of the richness and quality of her voice, and this does not do it justice (to say the least). As far as I can tell it's not much more than a dodgy bootleg. The quality is so poor that I haven't been able to listen to more than a few of the tracks. Please do not waste you money as I did.
I am a huge KD fan. If these transmissions were lost I guess they should have remained lost. It's one of those cds you buy on a street market van or even worse. I haven't heard such a bad recording before. It's a shame that one takes profit selling this even poor printing quality cd.
When i saw this i got really excited. k.d. is always at her best live. When i put it on i couldn't believe the quality. Bad! Really bad. Im stunned that this was released. When i say bad quality i don't mean k.d. She couldn't give a poor performance if she tried. But man this is an insult to her AMAZING talent.
