5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully told 23 May 2012

I loved 'Summer of the Eagles' and it's a book I'm sure I'd have adored as a tween or teen.

I won't give a summary here, as others have done so in their reviews, but I would just like to say that I particularly liked the character of Karig and the uncertainty over who, exactly, he was. Just the right degree of mystery in what was otherwise a realistic and heartwarming story of a young girl coming to terms with bereavement.

Ros Gemmell is clearly an author to watch and I look forward to reading more of her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystical Summer Adventure on a Scottish Island 21 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Summer of the Eagles is a story to be enjoyed by all, whether young teenagers or adults. Thirteen year old Stevie, orphaned and injured in an accident is taken to her aunt's on a Scottish island to heal both her body and mind, but here she discovers poachers out to steal the eagles' eggs, and Karig, a mysterious boy, who watches over her.
It is told in a gentle style that brings out the beauty of the island, and describes how Stevie grows up during her stay on the island. Definitely a satisfying book to take on holiday. Especially if you are off to the Scottish Islands!

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer of the Eagles 17 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This Scottish tale had me misty-eyed from the start! The author's sympathetic handling of the issues affecting a troubled young girl ensures we empathise with Stevie. She lost both parents in an accident and is sent by Gran to Aunt Jen on a small island. Stevie needs to recuperate from her injuries - mentally and physically. As she slowly recovers, she is watched-over by the mysterious Karig - protector of the endangered eagles. But - there is a new danger for both Stevie and the eagles... Read this fast-paced tale to its beautiful conclusion, for although essentially a tween novel, it will appeal to the angst-ridden youngster in all of us. And as for those who spent so much time on this very island, we can bathe in the memory of cycling - along-side Stevie - during those happy, hot summers.
