5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up to Winter Solstice 28 Aug 2010
Format:DVD
Nice story - good cast (especially Sinead Cusack - she's always wonderful). We saw Winter Solstice first and I recommend doing that, so you'll know what went on previously.

1.0 out of 5 stars Summer Solstice - McMills & McBoon 24 July 2006
By Scottie
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mills & Boon meet Monarch of the Glen in this DVD drama written as a sequel to Rosamunde Pilcher's Winter Solstice. I couldn't understand why the drama appeared to be two episodes until it dawned on me that it must have been intended as a two part TV drama that hasn't yet made it on to the box. The story-line is pretty corny and the acting not all that good but it is brightened up by the appearance of Honor Blackman. Viewers who like undemanding entertainment that doesn't require too much concentration may find it more to their liking than I did. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy it but I found it the DVD equivalent of a holiday-reading paper-back.

1.0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment 18 Jan 2011
By CMP
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
My first disc was faulty, Part way through the second episode, the film froze and the screen showed a disc unreadable message. Amazon replaced this and the same thing happened with the replacement disc but my son was able to play it on his SOny Blu RAy DVD player=he said it is more powerful (what difference that makes I don't know).
I found the film quite irritating.I don't know why Rosamunde Pilcher would put her name to it. It isn't taken from one of her books but is only a TV production. The characters are developed from Winter Solstice. Rosamunde PIlcher book Winter Solstice is beautiful, the characters are lovely but the film changed the woollen mill into a distillery, introduced other characters and changed the characters especially Carrie who is much nicer in the book. I didn't like Carrie in Summer Solstice, she wasn't a good hotel manager, speaking rudely to a guest who had a genuine complaint so I didn't feel the hotel deserved to succeed. Sinead Cusack as Elfrida was good in both films, believable and likable.Jaqueline Bissett was lovely. I kept thinking of her as Pandora in September which was a bit disconcerting. honor Blackman was entertaining. The chap who played Oscar seemed to have a wooden facial expression most of the time. Generally speaking, a big disappointment, I didn't engage with the characters, the plot wasn't really believable, ( the novel script under the car seat all that time!!!) and the replacement disc won't play all the way through on my Sony DVD player. Still, it's OK if you want to knit or troll through ebay while you are watching but don't expect to be totally engrossed!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice continuation 17 Dec 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I saw 'Winter Solstice' thanks to my great aunt, and bought that DVD only to discover there was a sequel - I'm not one for even reading such authors like Rosamunde Pilcher, as I love fantasy, action, and comedy a bit more than drama, but this I enjoyed, Sinead Cusack is a brilliant actress, and I love the young love between Lucy and Rory.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a shame! 14 Jun 2012

Format:DVD
Anyone there saw that the Carrie character has been played by two different actresses? In Winter Solstice we have Sophie Schütt as Carrie and in Summer Solstice we have Lara Joy Korner as Carrie. What's the point in this, I really don't understand. The fact that they changed Carrie made me not to buy the DVD, as much as a like the whole crew especially Jason Durr and the two German actresses who played Carrie. Pity!!!
