Passion Play 17 Nov 2010
By The Wolf TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson is another singer/songwriter
to have put down roots in Brooklyn soil and found sustenance.
'Summer Of Fear' is his second album (His eponymous 2009 debut
is also more than worth a listen) and he delivers the 13 songs
in this collection with a distinctively fractured but nowhere-
close-to-unpleasant voice and buckets full of wayward energy.

Jump to 'Always An Anchor' to get a good glimpse of what he does
best. The simple introduction doesn't quite prepare us for the
ecstatically rough and ready mayhem of what is subsequently
unleashed! It's a bit Bob Dylan, a bit Arcade Fire but at heart it's
essentially very much his own property. It made me jump up and down!

'The Sound' is a cracker too. A pulsing keyboard motif and restrained
electric guitar support an extraordinary vocal performance. There's
more than a little madness at work in the shrill harmonies and
squalling waves of feedback. The sense of real drama is irrisistible!

'The 100th Of March' is full of passion and some very strange brass
playing. The raw materials of the arrangement sound as thought they
might be held together with string and sticky-tape but it works!

'Losing 4 Winners' is a jolly little piece of surrealy-flavoured
skiffle. It works its way under our skin and into our hearts by
stealth and makes us twitch and tremble with a curious kind of joy!

The epic 'More Than A Mess' overstays its welcome by at least five
minutes but nonetheless possesses both grandeur and restrained passion.

Final track 'Boat' (propelled steadily along by a percussive sound
not unlike a packing case being beaten repeatedly with a badminton
racket!) finds Mr Robinson baring his soul to all who might listen.
It is a powerful conclusion to an edgy and emotionally engaging album.

I listened and I liked it a lot.

Recommended.

Multi talented musician...awesome music! 6 Aug 2010
By Matti Kniva Spencer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This CD is fantastic. I had purchased the artist's previous CD and fell in love with his music then. He sings from the heart...having written all the songs himself. I found myself thinking of Lou Reed a lot as I listened to his songs. They have a similar style. The music is very upbeat...and he does sings some ballads as well. I recommend this CD highly...and if you get the chance, go to YouTube and check out this man's videos as well. When you watch him perform, you will appreciate his music even more.
