Product Description

Product Description

"More than two decades ago, Nancy Appleton's Lick the Sugar Habit exposed the health dangers of America's high-sugar diet. Now, in SUICIDE BY SUGAR, Appleton, along with journalist G.N. Jacobs, presents a broader view of the problems caused by our favourite ingredient. Through a collection of articles, the authors offer startling facts linking a range of disorders - from dementia and hypoglycemia to obesity and cancer - to our growing addiction to sugar. The book also includes a sound diet plan that leads the way to good health, along with a number of recipes for sweet, easy-to-prepare, delectable dishes - all made without sugar or fruit. "

A friend told me about this book that has been quite difficult to get hold of for a time. So I was pleased to find it available on Amazon. It is a must and clearly defines why we do so much harm by our addiction to sugar. I remember my mother putting sugar on my younger siblings dummy so she probably did on mine and I have relied on a sugar crutch for a great deal of my life. Each person should decide for themselves to what extent they must to take this message onboard but I definitly feel my embracing the information in this book and adjusting my diet I shall ultimately lead a longer and healthier life. Dr Mercola on his website recomends EFT as a great way to conquer cravings which have been shown can be as strong as craving for heroin with similar withdrawal symptoms. Afraid it is serious stuff!

This is a real gem! Read it to understand how and why we do not need sweeteners/sugar in our daily diet. Be aware that there are a few natural sugars that play no part in destroying our 'well-being', these are easy to locate and use.

As a therapist and wellness coach I recommend this book to all my weight-loss patients especially those with a 'sweet tooth' or who feel that they constantly crave food even though they aren't hungry. In the book the author explains this phenomenon as the 'Dopamine Reward System' in the brain which tricks us into believing we are hungry even when we aren't!

Chapter 2 lists 140 medical conditions that sugar can cause. This is enough to scare anyone off of this unnecessary product in our diet.

Since giving up my own sugar addiction early last year not only have I finally lost my own stubborn belly fat; people say I actually look years younger (btw according to the book sugar reduces the elasticity in our skin and accelerates ageing!). Additionally I have far less aches and pains, don't get regular colds and flu bouts like I used to (sugar weakens the immune system according to the author). I also have much more energy since not eating sugar and my skin has improved.

At the back of the book there are detailed categories of healthy foods that one can eat whilst overcoming sugar addiction.

As stated before, a highly recommended read. I found that by reading the book 'Sugar Blues' prior to reading this book it gave me a more complete picture from a socio-economic view point as to why sugar is so prevalent in our food today and why mainstream media give sugar and it's toxic effects on the human body so little recognition.
