Suggs is a national institution. He is a front-man, presenter, radio DJ, and all round top bloke. As the lead singer in Madness he has been in the spotlight again in recent years with the Olympics and the Jubilee, and has just completed a tour of his one man show. It is part monologue, part songs and has proven to be a real hit with audiences up and down the country.
The Suggs Selection is a 60 track album personally compiled by Suggs. There is soul, reggae, ska and classic pop. This is what he has to say about it:
"What joy and pain it has been in equal measures boiling a forty year love affair with popular music, down to sixty tracks. Pop music has become a dirty word in certain circles. But pop stands for popular, as in, music people like. So although you will find some eclectic stuff that I hope may come as some surprise, it is mostly good solid songs that have got me going down the years.
And like one of those Friday nights for which I'm still famous for round my way, instead of waking up to 45's and CDs scattered all over the living room floor, now all you need is this album for an instant party. I've done all the work of trying to put the right things back in the right covers. Songs are instant reminders of where you were at any given moment in your life. Your first dance, snog, pair of tasty shoes, youth club disco, lights out smooch, house party, gig - they're all here. Just make sure you don't get them in the wrong order! "
