"Outstanding - compares well to any P.D. James novel." - An American Editor

"An unsettling read with echoes of Mo Hayder." - Crimetime.co.uk

SUGAR & SPICE is the crime thriller agents called "the last taboo". Based on research and details from the case of notorious murderer, Robert Black and his capture, Sugar & Spice was deemed "Too controversial for the British market."

Over half a million worldwide readers thought otherwise. (Worldwide sales are now in excess of 325,000 copies and 'the book that no-one would touch' has been downloaded free online more than 100,000 times) - Make your own mind up.

Would you trust a convicted sex offender to help you find your daughter's killer? Claire did...Inspired by a news story of a man who begged the courts to give him a longer sentence, because he knew he would harm again if released without treatment, Sugar & Spice is meticulously researched, asking the questions society prefers not to have answered. At once disquieting and challenging, Sugar & Spice is car-crash reading. Be warned: In Sugar & Spice not all things are nice...

Everyone has demons. What happens when they won't stay quiet any longer?

Found this via Kindle store and downloaded it as it was a cheaper read and I'm so glad I found this author and book. It is just amazing.

The detail and research that have gone into it are outstanding. This makes it a fast, impossible to put down read - up with the likes of Peter James.

However, a word of warning - it is graphic in its detail and its insight into the mind of a paedophile in the character of Greg Randall. This makes it chilling but also makes it believable and realistic, if not also uncomfortable reading in places.

I will certainly look for more by this author in the same genre and would recommend to anyone who enjoys a well written british crime thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down! 16 Dec. 2012

Had this on my Kindle for ages before I read it - and then I couldn't put it down! Starts off slightly disjointed but it is well written and a great story. Definitely worth a read, I am going to check out other books by the same author now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible 12 May 2011
By Nell
Format:Kindle Edition
Well what can I say...I have never felt compelled to write a review until I read this book. The concept was ok but the storyline, characters and conversations were unbelievable and annoying. The met police and social worker interactions were so ridiculous at times I felt like deleting it from my kindle. You don't get to know the characters and as such I felt no emotion towards them. It's only saving grace was it cost me 69p to download. There's probably not a crime writer I haven't read so pleeeease don't waste your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read! 18 Jun. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I downloaded this book based on some of the reviews, some were bad others good..... it provoked an interest to see what all the fuss was all about!

On the negative side, yes the editing left little to be desired! I recommed this author uses someone with more experience next time! Yes the material used makes for uncomfortable reading and I can understand why some people could not finish the book because of this, it is'nt for the faint hearted but it is not overly graphic, but it does make the imagination go to places we would rather it did not venture! Yes the public servants were painted in an very unpleasent way, unfair maybe but this was only a story and although there are bad eggs in every profession it only added to the gritty storyline...

But... on the plus side, the characters were believable, the torment and the fight for the truth in the mother was very real, the story in my mind flowed and i was gripped enough to read to the end despite the sobering and disturbing content. This author has written a powerful story (remember it's a story!) yes some of the plot line may be a tad thin at times but i found the back ground information and the stories within the story quite powerful reading.. I can't say that I enjoyed the book but I can say that I was enthalled enough to want to know how this story ended and it was a conclusive ending.

I would give this book a whirl if you can stomach the content, it's actually worth it and I will be interested to see what this author comes up with next....

5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched publication 20 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ms. Desforges has produced a riveting crime novel with the added bonus of providing the reader with a largely accurate, thus, informative introduction to several Western paedophilic discourses. A job well done, I look forwarded to reading more from this author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful book 23 April 2011
By AnneW
Format:Kindle Edition
An awful book, really bad basic writing, ridiculous and unbelievable plot and character actions, flat characterisation, full of cliches, reads like Forensics 101 in places. I only finished it to find out what happened, should have guessed that the ending would be absurd. But the worst thing is that it is full of the most crass stereotypes and prejudices.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where is an editor when you need one? 23 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Poorly written, full of typos and in desperate need of an editor. Too many long expositions in the guise of dialogue. Dreadful characters acting and speaking in cliche. Some interesting approaches to theme but lost on the way.

Interesting twists and turns. Quite a good story with a grisly theme - a little unbelievable in places but overall not bad. Not my usual crime genre.
