Review

'I've tasted several dishes from the book, and they were stunningly good ... the book is a beautiful object, and some of the dishes are strikingly scrumptious.' Wall Street Journal 'This intriguing book has identified the dishes mentioned in the writings of Mevlana and his followers and either reproduced them from contemporary recipes or reconstructed them with help from traditional cooks in Konya today.' The Guardian 'Modern Western works on mysticism tend to overstress the opposition between the soul and the stomach. [This] book, which is great fun to read, goes a long way towards addressing this misconception.' Times Literary Supplement 'She has made a great study of this food tradition.' Cornucopia 'A jewel of a book.' -from foreword by Claudia Roden

The Guardian, September 17, 2005

'[An] intriguing book ... the dishes are not too complicated to try ...'

Vegetarians beware 3 Mar 2011
By Ms. C. J. Mcelwee VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I only received this book last night, but was really looking forward to it as Muslim and Islamic cultures often have a lot of vegetarian dishes, however in this volume even the 'vegetable dishes' have meat in.

Of course you can leave it out, or substitue with Quorn or similar, but I was disappointed there were so few truly vegetarian options. However, there are a lot of scrumptious looking dessert dishes!

Otherwise beautifully put together, and I am sure I will use it, if with tweeks and changes.
