Format: Hardcover
H Munro Cautley's 1930's book of Suffolk Churches is widely recognised as THE early 20th C reference book on the subject. The 5th edition of 1982, published many years after the author's death, incoporates a supplement on Victorian churches by Anne Riches completing the extensive entries on the whole of Suffolk. Cautley's first 200 pages discuss all major aspects of church architecture and furniture followed by details of all Suffolk's churches, the most important with major reports, others less so.
This large format book is full of photos, mostly black and white, but with some in colour.
Despite its publication date nearly 30 years ago, this is still regarded as one of the two major works on the subject and although not a cheap book it is a must- along with D P Mortlock's "The Guide to Suffolk Churches"(2001,)-for the 'Church crawler'.
