Product Description

Description

Competent pop-punk brushed with adult bathos is the bill offare on Rise Against's 2006 album, THE SUFFERER AND THE WITNESS. The Chicago group have everything working in their favor here, with top-shelf production by genre veterans Bill Stevenson (All, Descendents, Black Flag) and Jason Livermore (The Ataris), and an appearance in the 2005 film LORDS OF DOGTOWN building momentum for the group. Musically, Rise Against reside at the intersection of aggression, melody, experience, and emotion, merging the heart-on-sleeve sounds of mid-'80s DC hardcore with professionally solid pop a la Weezer. Singer Tim McIlrath's dusky holler is the uniting factor, carrying songs like the anthemic "Prayer of the Refugee" over the finish line with determination and grit.

This album has got it all : meaningful lyrics, catchy music and great production. It grabs you from the first note and you'll find yourself playing it over and over again with the same joy. A gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing, 11 Jul 2006
By J. V. Evans (newtown, powys United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Sufferer and the Witness is Rise Against's 4th album and in my opinion in the best. Each song radiates in politics, religion and how the world is changing and goes about it in a poetic way and doesn't shove it down your throat. Rise Against are officially the best punk band of our generation, and they have also proved they can do all sorts of punk melodies, old skool punk tracks and even accoustic punk songs.

Without trying to sounds too biased, it disappoints me to see people going crazy over albums recently released that seem to be glorified to a higher extent than Rise Against's beautiful work; for instance Lost Prophet's new "Liberation Transmission". I also bought that CD and I thought it was a crock of garbage. It's OK if you are a 12 year old girl that fancies the lead singer, but all in all it doesn't matter too much. Rise Against has plenty of loyal and respecting fans that know great music when they hear it.

Buy The Sufferer and the Witness, and then their other 3 albums: Siren Song of the Counter Culture, Revolutions Per Minute and their debut album The Unraveling. Open your eyes to the genius that is Rise Against!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard, Fast, Political, 24 Aug 2006
By D. Beynon "maaaaaay" (llandybie) - See all my reviews

This is a great album, follows the steps of previous albums such as revolutions per min and siren songs. Stand out tracks are 'injection' 'bricks' 'built to last' and 'drones'. Recommended for anyone interested in previous albums or punk/rock
