Book Description

1 Aug 2012
Do you long for something more in your relationship with God?

The good news is that “something more” does not mean “doing more.” God is not waiting for you to get your spiritual life “right.” He wants to be with you right where you are.

The real question is not “What does God want from you?” but “What does God want for you?”

Sharon Jaynes understands what it’s like to have a “glory ache”—a longing to experience God’s presence on a daily basis. She also knows how easily working for God can get in the way of intimacy with God. And she’s discovered that we tend to make our faith journey much too hard.

In A Sudden Glory, Sharon uses Scripture and story to help you erase the line between your “spiritual life” and your “daily life” as you enter the sanctuary of God’s presence even in the middle of your busy, messy day. Here you will find your eyes opened to moments of sudden glory in which the Creator assures you of His love as you live and move and have your being in Him. Here you will discover true freedom—the freedom of experiencing God in a deeper and more intimate way than ever before.

Includes Bible study and discussion guide.

If only I had known that more people felt the way I did, then i would not have thought I was the only person in this situation.

A conversation that many of us ask is, `there must be something more...' Are we missing something in our relationship with God? We often feel trapped within the world's thinking that something more, means `doing more'. It can be easy to feel lost when the burdens of the world sits heavily on our shoulders.

Are you desperate for that closeness with our Lord, to feel His tender love surround you?

So what is a sudden glory?

`A Sudden glory - an intimate moment with your creator, the Lover of your soul, a genuine `in loveness' a glimpse of heaven.' P.10

Before I opened the first page, I knew I would love A Sudden glory, and I was right; I did, and will continue to. Sharon's book will encourage your heart and walk with God, as you ask the question, `how can I grow in my relationship with my Creator, becoming more aware of His everlasting presence each day?'

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read for Christian Living: All Women 11 Sep 2012
By Modern Day Disciple/Dawn Paoletta - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
So I reluctantly chose A Sudden Glory- God's Lavish Response to Your Ache for Something More as a book to read for review. Why was I reluctant? After all Sharan Jaynes is an international speaker and author of 17 books. She served as vice president and radio co-host of Proverbs 31 Ministries for ten years...stop right there. I just thought to myself, without realizing it, another Christian Woman book. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Blah. But still, something in the description compelled me to choose it despite the fact I expected less than anything grand. As you can see I am getting cynical now that I am a bonafide book reviewer! Ha!

Well I was wrong, it is a truly grand book! This book is filled with life changing truth and seasoned with extraordinary levels of grace expressed in a way that I found to be easy to move through yet profoundly beautiful and uplifting.

So let me tell you about the greatest book I have read this year and why you need to read it too.
Are you ready?

One verse of scripture should tell you :

In Him we live, and move and have our being.
Acts 17:28

Sharon bases her whole work on this premise.
On this prerequisite for life in Christ.
That this living and moving and having our being can be attained,
is in fact being attained. Moment by moment.
Glory to glory.
We can choose every moment and
can see holy ground everywhere...
or nowhere.
Momentary glimpses of God when He makes himself known to
each one of us uniquely, is what Sharon refers to as moments of sudden glory.
She says it like this, "I call those moments when God makes Himself
known to you personally a sudden glory -
an intimate moment with your Creator, the Lover of your soul, a glimpse of heaven."
Sharon begs us the question to ask God what He wants
for us instead of what He wants from us.
She begins with God's glory in Chapter One and continues the upward journey throughout the entire book coaching us on to greater depth than we have dared to consider before.

Here is a journey through chapter topics and titles:
His pursuit of us;
learning to live in sacred union;
joining him in continual conversation;
daring to raise our expectations;
saying yes to his invitation to dance;
trusting him in difficult times;
seeing Him through a lens of gratitude and grace;
choosing intimate relationship over routine religion.
Each chapter takes us closer to the beautiful reality and potential we all long for.
Intimacy with the One True Living God.
She reminds us that all things are possible when the sacred and the secular
merge together in a divine and miraculous sudden glory, in the daily ordinary moments called life.

I received this book (see Blogging For Books)
for the purpose of review.
The opinions I express are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for women's book study! 6 Oct 2012
By Denise G. Evanoff - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am a girl who has lots of issues. I am totally willing to admit this. I have areas I really struggle in, and I have issues that I think I have all figured out. Then something out of the blue creeps up, and I realize I really didn't have it all figured out! I can be a very jealous person. I compare myself to others way too much. I see things that I want very badly. I think I deserve more. I wish life was easy for me. I don't like struggling or working too hard.

All that being said, it is a little difficult for me to read a book like A Sudden Glory. I am a fixer and after reading a chapter, I immediately go into fix-it mode. When sometimes I need to just step back and let God work in my life. I know. Easier said than done!

Have you ever looked at someone's life and thought, I want to do what she's doing. I want to have the impact on others that she is having. I want the ministry she has. Unfortunately, I have fallen into that trap many times. But then God reminds me of His words: "I know the plans I have for you" (Jeremiah 29:11). His plan for me is uniquely choreographed. His plan for you is uniquely choreographed.... planned to a T. Sometimes the choreography will make perfect sense in your limited understanding, and other times it may make no sense at all. But be sure of this: God always has a plan. (pages 126 & 127)

The study guide offered at the end of the book is an excellent resource if you are looking for a women's book study. The study offers a lot of scripture references for a deeper understanding of each chapter in the book.

*I was given a free book in exchange for my review. The opinions are mine.*

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sudden Glory 3 Sep 2012
By Heather King - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Fix breakfast for your kids. Wash the dishes. Supervise teeth brushing, comb hair, plant kisses. Buy groceries. Pay bills. Drive to work, drive home. Cook dinner. Do Bible study. Answer emails. Pray and go to bed.

The daily drag of life can sometimes weigh us down. More than that, it can blind us to God's glory. That's what Sharon Jaynes is writing about in this book--the reminder to be alert for God, to press in to Him and long for His presence.

Even when we're doing everything right, we can still miss out on the intimacy and elaborate grace God intends for us. We long for something more; maybe it's a need we can't even identify, but we still we feel it. So we DO what we are supposed to do. Yet, she writes: "Rather than ask God what he wants from us, we need to ask Him what He wants for us" ( pg.9).

Sharon Jaynes has written a beautiful, inspiring, challenging, encouraging and very real book, perfect for the individual to read and for a group setting (study guide included). She shares out of her own personal pain, the times she was angry at God and the times when His plans weren't her own. This openness makes her writing even more compelling because life doesn't always go how any of us expect. Most of us have been there, crying, disappointed, upset with God, desperately hurting, and we need the testimony of someone who's walked through that and seen God glorified.

I've so often heard messages on this topic that remain frustratingly simplistic and superficial. They go something like this: We long for something more. We know Jesus better. We feel better. Amen.

Even those of us walking with Jesus so closely, though, will still feel a longing for more, a sense of incompleteness. I hate when pastors and teachers ignore that, giving pat answers, cliched lessons, and leaving us all unsatisfied as to why we're still longing when we've done everything they've said.

The fact is that as long as we are on this side of heaven, we will never be truly filled. The closer we walk with God, the more satisfied we will be, but the more we will be reminded of the beauty of heaven when nothing will cloud our vision, when nothing remains hidden or unanswered. When we see Jesus face to face, that's when our deepest longings will truly be satisfied. Sharon Jaynes avoids all of the pitfalls of over-simplification here and gives us the hope of heaven.

But she also gives us hope for the meantime while we wait here in this earthly place. We live in obedience, in worship, in gratitude, in communion with our God and He draws us close, giving us glimpses of heaven---glimpses of His glory. That's how He responds to our ache for something more and it's glorious.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own. 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read 9 May 2013
By lovetoread - Published on Amazon.com

I picked this book as part of an online Bible study. I was really not feeling that 'Ache for something more' but I wanted a Bible study that was not going to take too much time as my time is limited these days.
I thought this was a well written book, the chapters were easy to relate to and reasonable in length and didn't try to describe the same point over and over again. Many books like this could have been pamphlets with extraneous verbiage. This book was 'light' and had great questions for reflection in the back. It was simple to understand and described perfectly those moments that I have experienced that ache.
The book gave great perspective on letting God do the 'work' in our lives that we often choose to try and do ourselves and reminded me to look around and just see His glory around me every day. He is with us if we just take time to look.
