Living in a country where the average sunshine throughout the year is quite low means we really treasure the few sunny days we're blessed with! So, wouldn't it be nice if we could capture the sunshine and put into t Jar? The Sun Jar does just that! The Sun Jar is a solar powered light made from a traditional Mason Jar - just like the ones used for preserving fruit! Inside the jar is a highly efficient solar cell, a rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamp. When the jar is placed in sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the LED lamp inside the jar. The light emitted is diffused by the frosted jar and gives the appearance of sunlight. There is no switch on the Sun Jar - in fact there are no visible controls at all. A light sensor inside the jar automatically activates the lights when it gets dark (or the lights are turned out!). However there is an override switch inside the lid to turn off the light at night and conserve battery life. However, please note that the Sun Jar needs DIRECT sunlight to work. Leave the Sun Jar outside - or in a sunny window in DIRECT sunlight - for several hours to charge - electric light indoors is not bright enough! Mason Jars by their very nature are watertight, so the Sun Jar can happily be left outside in any weather conditions. You may find that in winter, or during cloudy weather, your Sun Jar illuminates for less time than usual, and may not light up at all. This is because your Sun Jar requires SUN to recharge! I've had an orange one of these jars for a couple of years now and have got really used to it lighting up on the windowsill in the summer; a lovely orange glow that comes on at dusk; so when asked what I wanted for my birthday I decided to get a blue one too. On arrival I was impressed that build quality seems to be better than it was: The jar has a more uniform matte finish and the rubber seal is much improved, it might actually be waterproof this time! Evening number one went well, it was disappointing that it needed to be much darker for it to switch on than my amber jar but I'm sure we could fix that with some tape on the light sensor and the single blue LED is very, very bright; almost too bright actually, but on evening two things started to go wrong: The light came on, but then quickly dimmed and then began this bizarre bright flashing at about 1Hz. We tried turning it off and on again, even opening it and removing the battery to reset but the problem remained. This fault repeated over the next few evenings so we returned the item. I would not buy another, the circuitry needs to be improved.

Even when i place it under the greek blazing sun for a whole day at the summertime , it only works for two hours maximum , in contrast to the "Suck UK Sun Jar Solar Light" which is less brighter but may work for 8 hours.
