Product Description

Rock and roll infused comedy horror from director Rob Stefaniuk, who also stars. Joey (Stefaniuk) is the front-man of rock band 'The Winners', whose career is proving unsuccessful. The band's manager, Jeff (Dave Foley), has no faith in them and a menacing barman, played by Alice Cooper, boldly tells Joey he should give up his dream. But when bassist of 'The Winners', Jennifer (Jessica Pare), is turned into a vampire by goth Queeny (Dimitri Coats), everything changes. The band soon have hit songs and a huge following. However, this sucess has come at a cost and Joey is forced to choose between living his dream and doing what is right. The film also features Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blood, fangs and rock'n'roll 24 Sep 2010
By PJ Rankine TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
At last a vampire movie worth watching. Suck is about a washed up band called the Winners who are so bad their manager reccommends that they fire him. One night in Montreal their female bass player is lured away by a vampire who turns her. Next night the audience are entranced by the vamp in the band and their fortunes start to improve. Their roady is roped in as a Rensfield type character and they soon have a Van Helsing on their tail played tongue in cheek by Malcom McDowell. One by one the band succumb to the temptation to become vampires until a showdown with Van Helsing forces them to reconsider their life style. The film is a blend of black comedy and musical and it works really well. Big names Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and Moby all play secondary roles to good effect but don't overshadow the largely unknown stars. It has good production values and my copy was anamorphic widescreen so no black bars. Being musical it also has a good rock soundtrack which I had no volume issues with. I'm sure this film didn't have a large budget but you'd never know, it is so well produced and was a great 90 minutes entertainment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, inventive, great cameos 27 Nov 2010
Format:DVD
I really liked this film. It is a guilty bit of fun, with great actors and musicians in every scene. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and it looks like the actors are having a good time.

Is it the greatest vampire flick ever made -- probably not, but it has no such pretension, either. It is a fun, quite novel look at vampires.

Very little in the way of exposition on what vampires are (or are not) is given, which was actually quite refreshing. In this story vampires don't need to be taught their natures, so there are no how-to hunting scenes, or anything like that ... it just chugs along with a rock and roll road trip story, and just assumes that the audience can accept that the vampires are vampires, and that they do vampire-like stuff. (Stakes and sunlight are bad, no mention of crosses or religious relics, no glittering like twilight - though they do shine sometimes)

I went into it expecting a bit of creative indie film fun, and that's exactly what I got.

Things that I especially liked -

Moby as an obnoxious hard rocker (the biggest rock star in Buffalo! -- People from the UK may not necessarily get why that is funny, but it is.)
Hugo, the hapless French Canadian roadie
Dmitri Coats as Queeny the head vampire, who was accurately described as being, "like a junkie from hell."
Alice Cooper & Iggie Pop, having fun being versions of themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun but not a masterpiece
FIrst off this is not a great cult musical movie like 'Phantom of The Paradise' or 'Shock Treatment' or 'Rocky Horror' perhaps because it is 90% comedy/horror and only 10% drama. Read more
