Product Description

Product Description

This book provides the necessary knowledge and tools to facilitate the successful implementation of an Enterprise Resource planning Package, such as SAP R/3, Baan or PeopleSoft. Based on a case study of a large SAP R/3 implementation, it presents a wealth of practical advice, delivering essential factors for successful project management, along with many practical tools and accelerators.

From the Publisher

Foreword

This book is on implementing Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) packages with standardized software (SAP R/3) in a relatively complex (multi-site, multi-country) environment.

As a manager in industry and later as a consultant partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, I specialized in supply-chain management, and have the experience of many projects to draw on for comparisons. The project that forms the focus for the case study in this book was very well managed by the company management, especially the CEO of ALVEO, Dr Jean-Pierre Sormani, and the overall project manager, Norbert Welti. The project was remarkable in three senses:

-It met its objectives -It finished on schedule - earlier, even

-It stayed within budget Norbert Welti draws on this experience - and his further extensive experience with project management and business process reorganization, including 10 years within SAP implementation - and shares it with you in this book.

This book will help professionals in sales and marketing, manufacturing, supply-chain management, finance and accounting that come across an ERP implementation. It will be especially useful to project managers and leaders of ERP projects, ERP software teams and such like. It will help these professionals and project managers to:

Avoid pitfalls in a project

Organize, manage, and lead a project effectively and efficiently

Implement an ERP project and its standard software on schedule and within budget

For me it was a pleasure and an honor to be close to the birth of this practical and down-to-earth book. It is a great book and I hope that my colleagues in industry, in consulting and in universities will harvest effectively the many fruits of this work.

Professor Dr Arno de Schepper Waalre, The Netherlands

The book promises more than it turns out to be. Surely you will find it very useful if you're looking for a description of a (any) project, but it doesn't specifically give you the information you need to successfully implement SAP. For example, no information is given about SAP components and related pitfalls or problems. It is just another project management book. Given the title, I had other expectations and was very disappointed the way the book turned out to be.

Very practical guide for complex SAP-implementations 27 Jun 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
As former management consultant implementing SAP this book is the 1st practical guide helping you to setup and rollout a SAP-project. The regular project management courses offer you just the general things that you have to do. They don't tell you were the pitfalls are and how you can overcome these issues. Welti's book is giving, based upon a real life case, just that extra information which might help the project members and organisation in carrying out a successfull SAP-implementation. This book is a must for project managers, -members and managers involved in the complex SAP-projects.

High practical value for all participants in ERP projects 29 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Having implemented more than 10 complete SAP projects myself (as a consultant and later on as a project manager), I rate this book as very helpful. It has an especially practical approach and is very easy to read. Most of all I appreciated the very personal comments about problems commonly occurring and mistakes often done during the projects live-cycle. But also the checklists, summaries and other tools used in projects are very useful and of a high practical value. I can recommend this book to internal and external project managers, key-users, as well as consultants.
