Product Description

Product Description

Assessment centres are an approach to selection in which a number of different exercises or methods are used to assess an individual's suitability for a job. The job hunter typically goes through an extended selection process involving activities such as presentations, group exercises, interviews and case studies. This form of recruitment has been growing in popularity in both the public and private sector, as employers are increasingly realising the long-term benefits of selecting employees in this way. For job hunters, though, these centres can be a daunting experience. This book aims to guide potential applicants through the process by explaining why assessment centres are conducted, what employers are looking for and what to expect on the day.

This review is from: Succeeding at Assessment Centres in a Week (Paperback)
This book was a tremendous help for me. I did not know much about assessment centres, but had heard bad stories about them from people looking for jobs. It gave my understanding and confidence a big boost for my own job hunting. It is written in positive and informative way with loads of hints and tips and I found it very easy to read. It covers a lot about competencies, interviews, group exercises and tests - if you are a job hunting new graduate, or manager, or thinking about returning to work after a career break, this book is well worth getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough, informative and effective book, 13 Feb 2004
This review is from: Succeeding at Assessment Centres in a Week (Paperback)
This book is very thorough on assessment centre preparation. I have 3 assessement centres to attend at Finance companies. I fell this book has demistified effective preparation for interviews, group excercises, psychometric tests, questionnaires, presentations and analysis excercises. The competencies assesed are explained carefully and this book is a very enjoyable read. It is clear that preparation and thinking carefully about the assessment process at an early stage is very important.
