As a university graduate who has a form of autism similar Asperger's syndrome, I was very excited when I came across this book. I was frightened about going to university, as I struggle to cope in new situations and have never been able to play the social game adeptly - my blunt honesty (how do you tell the difference between tact and a lie?) and my obsessive interests mean that making friends is always a challenge. But the authors of this book seem to have addressed my every fear, with richly detailed, in-depth chapters on every aspect of living and learning at college. From this book I learnt what to do if I get upset or panicky in a public place, how to approach the other students, and how to tell a true friend from a false one - in short, how to succeed at college with Asperger's syndrome! This book was not quite good enough to make me learn to like spending time with other people, but I now understand that it is important to be more tolerant of them, and why.
I also realize that no amount of books will make my condition go away. But this one has helped to allay my fears about university and after reading it I no longer felt sick at the thought of moving to a new place (well, perhaps only a little bit). This was like a second Bible to me - I consulted it regularly and even took notes so that I was able to remember everything.
