Review
A book for competitors in any sport who want to get the greatest performance improvement from the precious time they spend training. Although Jackie is an archery expert, the simple formula she has worked on to help her succeed can be applied to any sport. The charts allow sportmen or women to record details of their training to analyse trends that lead to success. The book had excellent reactions from top sports people and from the industry. --Archery World
Jackie has made a significant observation concerning the need to be able to see many days of records at a glance. Her charts would be most helpful to any athlete to notice trends in training. Scores can be deceiving and I like the detail of her program. She has defined in a simple to use fashion a way to quickly see what the performer is really doing beyond just looking at score. I especially like the use of symbols to record levels of performance; stars, plus signs. Great idea. I feel Jackie has made an important advance to competitors by writing this book. Good job. --Lanny Bassam, author of With Winning In Mind
The phrase that stands out in this action packed book - personal excellence is a contest with yourself - sums up its message and value for anyone serious about a competitive sport or pastime. The author packs in nine chapters and an appendix with sample charts. Topics covered include the learning cycle, success factors, compilation of charts and more detailed notes if appropriate. There are useful suggestions for further reading. --Archery World
From the Author
If you play sport, you'll enjoy a good performance; I know I do. It feels great and gives us a high. I wrote Succeed in Sport to help you get more of that buzz, whatever your sport, whether you play at club, county or national level.
The chart I developed and have used since 1991 makes it simple to record training and analyse results. I have kept the chapters short and to the point so the book is easy to read. You can adapt the method to any sport and I explain how to do that. I've also included 5 examples (archery, badminton, karate, hammer throwing and running). Understanding what contributes to your sporting performance allows you to focus your training time on the right things.
I've had some great feedback from readers. My method helped me to win 5 British titles and reach 10th in the World Championships. I hope it will also help you to Succeed in Sport.
Wishing you every success
Jackie
