Product Description

Product Description

This book features at long last, cross-stitch patterns for the young, hip, do-it-yourself generation. "Subversive CrossStitch" is the Stitch-n-Bitch for needlework afficionados. It had already received lots of UK media attention - "The Guardian", "The Face" - and sure to gain more. Julie Jackson has brought cross-stitch firmly into the 21st century. Her work has the look of an oldfashioned sampler, surrounded by hearts and duckies, but emblazoned with messages such as "Bite me," "Beeyatch," and "Homo Sweet Homo." Julie Jackson was not cut out for the rat race. Frustrated with idiot bosses, she created "Subversive Cross-Stich" as a means of self-expression.

I wanted an introduction to cross-stitch that wasn't fussy, all the other books I could find just had pictures of simpering cats and baby samplers, not exactly appropriate for me. This book is the great antidote to all those cheesy staples of this craft. I'm currently working on one of the popular sweary pieces, which makes me giggle as I stitch.

It gives you a little run down at the beginning of the book about the cross stitch basics - what cloth, needles and thread to use. Then it's many pages of patterns, along with a finished design. The designs are fun as well as pretty and creative, she's really tried to match the wording with some lovely patterns.

I showed this book to my work mates, they all had a good laugh at the patterns.

This book is funny and fantastic. A perfect antidote to all those icky kitten, bunny, flowery cross stitch patterns! Not for those easily offended.

Do you giggle at naughty words? Like things that are out of the ordinary? This cross stitch book is a must have for crafters who like to have fun with their work. I hadn't crossed a stitch since I was 5 years old, and this was a perfect way for me to get started with a new hobby. The designs are easy to follow and the instructions are helpful for beginners. If you're a needlework pro then you may find that the ideas explored in this book are a bit basic or limited, but it's a good start for anyone needing a little inspiration.
