Book Description

Submersion is the latest thriller from Guy A Johnson - the author of Back to the Old House and doG Backwards - set in the claustrophobic environs of a devastated city, where luxury is absent, food scarce and it’s not clear who you can trust. Rich with dark and detailed characterisations, like his previous works, its unexpected twists and shocks will keep you hooked and guessing till the very end…
A missing girl. A search across a flooded city. A resurgence of terror.
And there’s something in the water. Something pushing its way up to the surface. Young Billy finds it one day when he is rowing a borrowed boat home. It’s dead, seemingly harmless, but what it represents isn’t.
Far from it.
But that’s not all.
A crazy old hoarder. A curious old shop, frozen in time. A face at a window.
And at the heart of it all, the missing girl…

New edition - November 2014.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 14 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Submersion is one of the best books I have read for a long time and it is one of my favourite genres. I was gripped from the very beginning to the end. The pace never slows down. Every character is believable, with their own individual story to tell. There are so many twists and turns that by the time I finished it today, I felt like I had been on a roller coaster ride!! It really is brilliant. If you have never read something like this before give it a go, you will be hooked within the first few pages. I can't wait for book 2 in the series to be released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dive in... quite literally 8 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This author has firmly embedded himself on my "must read" list. From "doG backwards" I was hooked (that is my favourite of his so far).

This guy (see what I did there?) gives you a meaty story... deep colourful characters... buckets of intrigue and suspense... and keeps you hanging in there waiting to see who did what, how they did it, and what will happen next. You know that moment when you are reading a book on your Kindle and you think "I'm loving this" and then realise you are still only a quarter of the way through? I got that from this book.

This isn't a fluffy portrayal of family struggles after a disaster - it is an honest and often brutal portrayal of how people cope with life after a disaster, how people cope with loss, and how secrets can tear people apart or bring families together.

The story begins with the disappearance of a little girl... and expands colourfully, keeping you guessing (in my case usually incorrectly) about how things will turn out. Am very much looking forward to the sequel.

This dark tale reels you further into its mystery with every page. A fantastic page turner; this dark psychological thriller does not disappoint. Each character opens another twist to the story and leaves you on a complete cliff hanger. I hope book 2 is out soon as I cannot wait for the next instalment! Pure genius. This book is a must.

I have a 2 year old and work full time and those with kids, I'm sure would appreciate the lack of time you get to settle down with a good book, but lets just say that for the last week, my husband and daughter have had to take a back seat whilst I've been totally engrossed in reading this brilliant book. It's one of those stories that keeps you thinking about it even when you aren't reading and I am now gutted that I won't be able to read the next instalment at least for another year and a half!!! Hurry up Mr Johnson, please!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant page-turner.... 6 Jun. 2014
By Sophie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Wasn't sure at first whether I'd enjoy this as much as the other novels I've read by this author but once I started, I quickly became engrossed in the twists and turns.

The storyline revolves around a dystopian world where children are "taken", the streets and houses are flooded meaning free movement is restricted, food and essentials are scarce, the memories of the rabid dogs which roamed the streets and which may still be there are still fresh and the authorities are not to be trusted with rumours of mind control and experiments carried out on the "taken" ones.

I loved the characterisation, the connections between people and the layers of mystery which were revealed as the novel developed. The suspense is tangible throughout the novel and each character holds a piece of the jigsaw.

The story is narrated by the different characters which I felt added greatly to the book as strands of the mystery were revealed through their eyes ....this also added to the suspense and made for a real page turner!

This isn't just a great mystery/thriller but also a great study into the characters and emotions of the people living in this frightening new world who experience loss, terror, love and hope. Loved the story, loved the characters and can't wait for the sequel!

My favourite character has to be Billy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant tale from Guy Johnson 14 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Guy Johnson has a knack for two things - telling a damn good story and creating believable, three dimensional characters. He has an absolute talent for making the impossible plausible. doG Backwards is a tale of bringing people back from the dead, this is a tale set in impossible floods....but he pulls both off with style.

This is an engrossing tale, a ripping page turner that does what many books don't, it makes you think about it when you aren't reading it. I found myself wondering how you would live in this strange flooded land...

You also care about the characters. I won't spoil it by describing the story, read it yourself you won't be disappointed. And hurry up with the sequel please Mr Johnson!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and addictive reading 19 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I just love this author's style of writing!
There is strong characters and with each one an
unfolding story which is revealed at a rate that
makes you keep turning the pages and wanting
more. The story is unique in it's location and setting
I believe which left me with a 'visual' as the plot
played out. I couldn't guess at any point of the
outcome and wasn't disappointed.
I was glued to this book all through and the last
25% I read in one afternoon as couldn't put it down.
Can't wait for the 2nd part :-)
