Pete Prichard has put together a wealth of information on submarine insignia around the world. Submariners traditionally trade their insignia with other submariners, but when they want to expand their collection, they often turn to letters and emails to conduct trades. High quality photographs, when available, with unique plate numbers allow collectors to clearly describe their items by simply referencing them from this book. I recommend it for anyone who collects submarine insignia or is thinking about collecting. This 1997 book does not include the most recent additions, like Singapore, or changes to insignia due to world events, such as the Russian insignia that is now without the red star. It does include an exhaustive description of U.S. historical and current submarine insignia. This book is a great coffee table book for those submariners or submarine fans that don't want to collect the actual insignia. To buy a collection of 18 to 24 insignia, if you can find someone willing to part with it, you might pay as much as $1000. This book, at around $50 is a much less expensive way for all submariners to share their brotherhood with others that roam the deep.
