4.0 out of 5 stars ...vavoom, swoosh and drone..., 30 Jul 2009
By Mr. H "the-rocker.co.uk" (Embra) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
I was half way through playing this, and hadn't bothered to read the credits on the sleeve. It had arived without any promo bumph and the only thing I had written on the piece of paper was 'Killing Joke'. So, knock me over with a feather, when I saw the names Paul Ferguson and Youth on the inner sleeve!

The Killing Joke scrawl was mainly due to the bass rhythm that pounds its way through the tunes and helps lift some of the otherwise ambient tunes into the world of rawk. I should have twigged from the Malicious Damage logo in the corner, but I was having a bad day.

In the company of Tim Bran (Dreadzone) and Simon Tong (The Verve, Gorillaz), Transmission have come up with a rather captivating album, which manages to fight clear of the perils of drone rock, through some melodic sparkles and psychedelic wig-outs.

It's good stuff, a late night headphone job to swirl the blues away. It'll depend on where your mind is situated at any given time, but last time round my favourites were 'You Hold The Fire' and 'Opium Head'. Vavoom!
