It is so frustrating when these details are not shown. It helps to know even if subtitles are not on the DVD. What is even more frustrating is how difficult is it in this digital age to include subtitles, especially on films which, due to their age/genre are of most interest to more elderly people who are more likely to be hard of hearing? My mother is completely deaf and totally relies on subtitles. I sometime cross reference the websites of the film distributor, e.g. MGM, Network, Playback, or even other sellers, and these often give you more info. The Network DVD website has an FAQ about subtitles and they are aware of the benefit of subtitling and are looking into including them in future releases (www.networkdvd.net) as they will inevitably be able to reach a wider audience. Come on Amazon, we need you to use your clout to press for subtitles with the film/TV distributors and you could at least show whether or not subtitles are described on the DVD's packaging.
