I was initially a little dubious about getting these rather than the normal narrower plates - I have a lot of long, thick hair that takes a while to straighten but it isn't particularly coarse. But I was swayed by the description claiming the versatility of these.
It's true they are absolutely fantastic to use. My other (cheaper brand) straighteners were starting to catch my hair and badly damage the ends during attempted curling. Although these are really hot, I've noticed the difference immediately - my hair is super-glossy and my ends aren't being frizzed to death by the heat. Plus I like being able to straighten/curl larger sections of hair at a time. However, the reason I've taken a star off is that I find that it's a little difficult to use these on a fringe, for me they're a little clunky and big for this and I can't get the same level of precision as I would with the classic styler.
Worth the money in every other respect though, especially with the cheaper Amazon price and free delivery. Hooray!

Unlike the last reviewer, I HAVE that thick, curly hair!It took me all of 10 mins to create the straight hair I've never had. Absolutily wonderful! So glad I took advice to buy ghd's....if you're pondering whether or not to buy them.....JUST DO IT!

I just bought this GHD IV Salon Styler Hair Straightener - Wide Plates and it is amazing...My hair is coarse, curly, always intend to frizz and really hard to be straightened...But it is all in the past!!! I ordered my GHD 5 days ago from the Amazon's own retailer and even with free delivery I received them today and as I was so excited to use them and see the results I instantly used them on my hair without even bother to wash the hair before!!! And the result? with only 2 strokes on each section, it is perfectly straight!!! Unbelievable... I have got three other Straightener and with them I needed to blow dry my hair first, and then with 5-6 strokes on each small section, I could not get this result of perfectly frizz free straight hair!!! I am really amazed...I also spent hours outside today and the weather was not dry and nothing happened to my hair!!! It did not get frizzy, how strange and wonderful is that? I still can not believe it...
They are really really hot though when the little red light blinking and you need to be careful when using them and definitely use some heath protection on your hair; I use Treseme heath protection spray as I used it before with other Straightener.
It really is worth every penny you pay for that and do not waste your money on other ones; because I think you will have to buy this one at the end if you want a perfect look with minimum time spending and effort!!!

ghd IV mark 4 salon styler wide plates
Having long thick affro type hair these are great for me. Having owned the normal typed ones i wont go back. The fringe is a bit harder to tackle but a round good product.
