Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
It's only "forty-bloody-two miserable, sodding days" before her wedding and Hat Grant, the heroine of Arabella Weir's new novel Stupid Cupid, has just been dumped. Too scared to face the truth behind her fiancé's "it's-not-you-it's-me speech", Hat decides not to let this little hitch stand in her way and steadfastly continues planning a wedding to die for. It's somehow easier to plough through a step-by-step wedding day countdown than worry that there's no sign of the groom. There's a limit, though, to how many times you can pad around your bedroom in wedding shoes to break them in or argue with your mother over the seating plan. Stargazer lilies and vol-au-vent fillings aside, it's not long before everything's ready and there's nothing to prevent Hat from listening to the frantic, panic-stricken voice inside her that's screaming "there's no groom". It's time to embark on the increasingly desperate (and funny) Top Ten Ways To Get Your Boyfriend Back, via a nasty bunny boiling incident and an episode worthy of Frank Spencer. Just how far will Hat go before she realises she's more interested in getting married than being married?

If you've ever sniggered at a bride's obsessive list-making, then Stupid Cupid is the book for you. Wickedly funny, it lifts the veil on the runaway train of wedding plans that tend to overshadow even the simplest of days. Perhaps this is not the best book to give a friend if they're up to their eyeballs planning their big day--why not sneak it into their honeymoon luggage instead? --Jane Honey

Product Description
Laugh-out-loud funny and achingly true to life, this is a book about that universally familiar phenomenon - when you lose something, you want it more than you ever did when you had it. This book is about obsession. It's about not being able to see the wood for the trees. Specifically, it's about Hat Grant, a gardener, who gets dumped by her fiance Jimmy Mack, four weeks before their wedding. She resolves to keep going with the wedding plans regardless - telling no one, except her three best friends, Gerry, Mish and Priscilla, the truth. Meanwhile she moves heaven and earth to get Jimmy back. Hat is determined to have her day if it's the last thing she does.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm in Love..., 19 Jan 2005
It's a light-hearted, easy to read, and fun. The story of a 30-something woman who chooses to go ahead with her wedding despite her fiance calling it off... is quite funny! I couldn't put the book down...probably because I wanted to know how on earth this story was going to end.

3.0 out of 5 stars A light and fluffy girly froth-fest!, 14 Jan 2003
By A Customer
This is a typically frothy girly read, light on substance yet possessing that strangely compelling edge in the fast-paced story that makes you want to read on. Yes, the plot is slightly absurd and often predictable, but I don't think this lets the book down given the genre to which it belongs. This book would be perfect for reading on holiday, or whilst surrounded by concentration-rending noise on a packed commuter train, or during a long hot soak in the bath after a hard day at work. It's light-hearted, easy to read, and fun - and I think that's exactly what Arabella Weir intended. If you want something to really engage with, then go somewhere else, but if it's disposable modern chick-lit that floats your boat, you could do worse than try this novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars funny!, 17 April 2006
This review is from: Stupid Cupid. (Paperback)
This book is very amusing. I've read a book by the same author called 'onwards and upwards' so I was expecting a lot of humor!

The story is as follows, Hat and Jimmy Mack are going to get married, untill 6 weeks before the wedding and Jimmy Mack calls it off. Whats a woman to do? Well a woman is to carry on with the wedding plans as usual and hope that he turns up on the day!

Very funny story although slightly predictable at times. An ideal summer holiday read.
