Product Description

Product Description

The Bardolatry Series includes some of Stuhrling Original's greatest examples of exceptional craftsmanship, both in the look and feel of the watch, and in the overall design. Take note that every member of this series is a skeletal timepiece, and each contains a mechanical automatic movement: our way of keeping up with a classic and elegant theme. These magnificent timepieces are also named after characters and plays by William Shakespeare, another way of paying tribute to rich and classic history. However, our homage would not be complete if we didn't include an example of watch-making at its very roots: a pure mechanical timepiece. That being said, we are proud to introduce the MacBeth and Lady MacBeth. These two timepieces, a matching set for men and ladies, display an artistic style that is true to Stuhrling Original's most recognizable design: the skeletonized mechanical watch. However, the MacBeth and Lady MacBeth differ from most watches of its type because there is absolutely no dial at all; nothing keeps you from seeing right into and through the decorated movement. To enhance this look even more, we've included skeletonized hands for the classic three-hand design, as well as a castle-like design that houses the Roman numerals. Keep in mind that the MacBeth and Lady MacBeth are watches that truly represent the history and tradition of watchmaking…they are both pure mechanical watches, manufactured like they were hundreds of years ago. The cases, made from solid 316L surgical grade stainless steel, feature high polished bezels for an extra bit of shine. Protected by Krysterna crystals, the case is mounted on crocodile embossed genuine leather straps, the MacBeth and Lady MacBeth is a very classy timepiece to wear on formal occasions.

The Stuhrling Original Story

With dedication to the heritage of Swiss watchmaking, Stuhrling Original timepieces appeal to the most discriminating taste at reasonable prices. The company has roots dating back to the 1800s when Switzerland emerged as the global leader in watchmaking. Stuhrling Original remains committed to its mission of preserving the high standards set in Switzerland manufacturing all of their fine timepieces in their Swiss-owned factory. Each and every model conveys an inimitable story with extraordinary style. You'll find heirloom selections for both men and women that even the most astute watch collector will cherish and admire.

In the workshops of Stuhrling Original, the unit specializing in mechanical movements, component selection, assembly, lubrication, adjustment and testing creates horological wonders entirely under vigilant attention of Swiss ownership and supervision. It is these workshops that produce the mechanical engines that are famous for meeting the highest existing criteria in there category. Starting with the main plate, the assembly process is performed in several consecutive stages up until anchoring the balance spring, which sets the watch into motion. Assembling a Stuhrling Original mechanical automatic movement comprises no less than 30 checkpoints, spread throughout the assembly process. Adjusting the angle of lift of the pallets, centering the balance-spring, poising the balance are just a few examples of these checkpoints; of which all are designed to enhance the performance of each movement. The movement must meet no less than seven criteria, including a mean variation in rate which is the highest standard in the industry in its class.

Stuhrling Original cases are distinguished by their technical complexity, their high-end aesthetic appeal and the quality of their finish. The watch cases are made from antimagnetic 316L surgical grade stainless steel, an extremely sophisticated alloy designed to stand up to intensive use. The rough parts, known as "middlecases" are blanked from a metal bar using a high-performance press. They then undergo eight successive stamping operations of a strength increasing gradually from 20 to 85 tons. Before each swaging operation, the middlecase is refired at a temperature of 1100 degrees Celsius, so as to temporarily reduce the hardness to a total stamping pressure of more than 400 tons. Finishing the cases then calls for fifteen polishing operations, all performed by hand alternating with nine baths guaranteeing immaculate cleanliness. Other components of the cases, such as rotating bezels or rider tabs also require a meticulous finish. The components of the cases are finally assembled by hand and rigorously tested.

Each Stuhrling Original dial has been designed to enable optimal read-off at a glance, while adding an element of artistic design. Stuhrling Original's dials are blanked from a brass plate and two cylindrical feet are soldered below to ensure security with the movement. Polishing operations, creating special effects through the use of vintage hydraulic German machines, and electroplating are just some of the more than forty operations required to make most Stuhrling Original dials. The transparent protective coating is applied in an immaculately clean environment before the various inscriptions are transfer printed using a gelatin pad which takes an impression from an inked block. On many of the dials the hour markers are either individually applied by hand or embossed into the dial and then topped with a special dye. The application of Super Luminova is performed by artisans with a nozzle pen connected to a high-pressure pipe which calls for intense concentration. Once finished, each dial undergoes careful aesthetic scrutiny under extreme magnification, as well as technical testing, to ensure it complies with all predefined dimensions and specifications.

Through meticulous labour, rigorous testing and examination of each timepiece by expert horologists, the vision of the Stuhrling Original timepiece is brought to life inside our workshops, where...

HASH(0x9360da8c) out of 5 stars THE BEST WATCH I EVER HAD OR WILL EVER HAVE! 18 Jan. 2012
By IHSSEC - Published on

My husband surprised me with this beautiful watch for Christmas this past year. He normally lets me pick out my own jewelry but not this time because I told him that with the recent purchase of a new used car, that we should just consider the car as our Christmas gift to ourselves. Anyway, he went and ordered this watch for me on the QT and was I ever surprised.
The watch needs to be wound every day. I have not had a watch like this since my first watch when I was a kid. At first, we thought the watch was broken as he mistakenly thought it was an "automatic" watch; but it is not. It is a
mechanical watch which requires winding.
Winding the watch: When I tried to wind it at first, I could not wind it more than four times and the watch would stop running after about 3 hours. Then I called CS because I thought the watch was faulty but it wasn't. They told me that I needed to wind it about 30 times. So when it stopped again, I did as they said. After the first four winds, the watch feels like it's really tight' you may feel like you're going to break it if you keep going but you won't. I wound it 30 times as they said and the watch then runs for about 29-32 hours. It is hard to wind but just keep going and you'll have the most perfectly kept timepiece ever made. It is also the most beautiful! I love watching the movement inside it. Even the box it comes in is a collectors item. It seems like it is made from leather. At least it seems like leather to me as I can smell the leather. Leather has a very distinct ofor; not a bad one either. If you get the watch, save the box. It is not something you would throw out. Inside is where you can keep all the paper work that comes with it. It has elastic bands inside to hold the paper work...and there is a nice silk type cloth that comes with it also. I believe that is meant to wipe the crystal with to keep it nice and clean and fingerprint free.
Buy this watch; you will not regret it.

I wanted a skeleton watch that was affordable and unique. When I received the item it was what I wanted. A larger androgynous watch to fit my 5 3/4 wrist. It is almost 38mm in diameter, so wide enough to not be too big. The watch does sit tall, but still flattering with the look of the watch. It is a mechanical watch, so it does have to be rewind every couple of days. Which is no problem for me because I don't have to worry about batteries. I did have to puncture another hole in the quality and sturdy band for the watch to sit more flush. I would recommend this watch for anyone looking for something other then a Michael Kors watch. It is is just different. I also ordered a tan ostrich band to switch out when I want a different look.

HASH(0x937ce060) out of 5 stars Inoperable product 25 Feb. 2012

It came in a very attractive box, and overall is a very nice looking product, but right out of the box it was damaged. The winding mechanism felt very tight and rough inside, and even at a full wind it would stop ticking if held at any angle other than flat.

Perhaps less time and expense should have been spent on the elaborate box it came in, and more on the movement inside.

HASH(0x936e113c) out of 5 stars Beautiful and unique watch! 21 Feb. 2012

I like wearing unique accessories, and was very excited when I discovered this series of skeleton watches by Sturhling. I ended up choosing the Macbeth because of the elegant gold and silver color scheme. It is a large watch, and the watch face spans my wrist exactly like the silhouette picture. However, all the better for you to be able to really see the delicate inner workings. The watch started up just fine the first time I wound it, and you can see the gears moving from the front and back.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this watch to anyone interested in a fun, unique watch.
