5.0 out of 5 stars Well and truly stuffed..., 12 Dec 2006
This is a fab little stocking filler to share with family and friends over the festive season; In fact, I recommend that everyone has a copy in their back-pocket, handbag or Santa Sack because "Turkey" is the ultimate compendium for surviving Christmas. Think of it as a handy set of coping skills depending on who you are spending the holidays with: So if you are hanging out with friends you could learn how to get the party going by teaching yourself how to uncork a bottle of champagne using a sword, (come on, they have swords in Argos!), or find out how to make the best xmas cocktails and the most effective hang-over cures. Trust me, you won't have heard of these before! if you have to spend Christmas day making small-talk with boring relatives there is a wealth of useful information about the history of Christmas and how to make festive salutations in every language. Then there are jokes, games, recipies, songs, tricks, and amusing anecdotal information about things you forgot about years ago, like the plots of Chistmas movies while you slept off lunch. Then if you have ever wondered about the true cost of Christmas according to the items listed in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas", now is your chance to dazzle everyone with not only the price of "2 turtle doves", "4 calling birds" or even, "12 drummers drumming" but where to purchase it all. Personally, I recommend the "12 drummers drumming" if you want revenge for next-door's sound-system...

5.0 out of 5 stars well stuffed, 8 Dec 2006
I've just bought 4 copies of this book, to give as presents to people for whom I find present buying difficult (Men!). Great information on drinking, and hangover cures - I'll report back on how effective they are later. I really like the section on Fun and Games, and will give some serious thought to the Festive Puzzles before I check the answers. I particularly like it, because you can read bits at random and don't have to follow any particular order. It's an excellent book, and a really good present!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Antidote to crass commercialisation, 6 Dec 2006
By Makris (London, England) - See all my reviews
The authors manage to rekindle the hearth fires of Christmases past through their selection of the quaint and quirky. What do a Napoleonic sword, champaign, the Bishop of Norwich and port have in common at Christmas time? Probably the only book that would be mad enough to try and answer that question.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff!
I love this book immoderately! It's just so clever and a real antidote to Christmas. I'm going to buy it for every (married) bloke I know and I recommend that to anyone!
