Product Description

Product Description

This is a comprehensive guide for students intending to embark on study or work in Spain, split into three sections. Part 1 provides background information on contemporary Spain: the restoration of democracy, the creation of autonomous regions, an overview of the education system and the structure of higher education including types of universities, their location and the range of undergraduate courses on offer. Part 2 offers practical advice on the student experience: preparing for your trip in advance, including how to choose a university, insurance, finance and how to get there, and living and studying in Spain, including accommodation, registration and adapting to Spanish patterns of study and way of life. A major section is devoted to working in Spain, including a detailed guide on how to find work, an overview of the different types of employment on offer, taxation, social security and health, and obtaining the correct documentation. Part 3 is a directory of Spain's 67 universities and the 50 towns in which they are located. Each town description includes general tourist information, and details of relevant institutions such as the town hall, employment office and chamber of commerce. Each university description provides detailed data on the institution or institutions located there, including contact numbers, teaching centres, student services and courses in Spanish language and culture.

Disappointing 6 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
This book has not lived up to my expectations, just a few points.

1: It has absolutely no information about postgraduate degrees.

2: It gives you the contact information about various universities, much of which is totally out of date.

3: It gives you little or no information about the quality of the various universities or how to distinguish between them.

4: the section on life in Spain while mildly use is full of truisms, and says nothing that you could not discover on a half decent website.

Not Very Helpful for Those Outside the UK 19 Nov 2004

It's hard to find good information about studying in Spain!

This book provided plenty of historical and philosophical information regarding the Spanish school system. It seems that the specific focus of the book is for UK undergraduate students who want to study in Spain.

If you're a post-grad, an enthusiastic language-learner, or simply looking for a change in your life that includes Spain, this book is not the comprehensive guide for you.
