Product Description

Review

In short... a condensed Media Studies course... I found the range of information, depth of analysis and provocative arguments presented here quite eye-opening. --Media Education Journal

...given that the field is almost supersaturated with all things Blade Runner, it is to Sean Redmond's everlasting credit that his book is as cohesive and potentially useful as it is. Geared squarely at practical, pedagogic application, Studying Blade Runner is a very useful book for calibrating academic issues with student expectations. --Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts

From the Publisher

Sean Redmond teaches Film at the Southampton Institute; and
was Chief Examiner of AQA Media Studies (legacy syllabus).

85% there but lacking 10 Nov. 2011
By J. T. Ryan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Sean Redmond's booklet is a pretty good read but lacks on depth, clear analysis and a good presentation of facts.

There are a number of points Sean uses that are very easy to take a different view. Case in point would be the issue of the 5th replicant. Sean's premise is that it is Deckard (based on a later interview with Ridley Scott). Interviews with writers and screenplay analysis contend that the 5th replicant was a mistake during production of the film.

Overall the book does make one stop and reexamine the film with some new insights but your money would be better spent on Paul M. Sammon's book, "Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner". Sammon's book presents most of Redmond's premises to the reader and does so in a much more informative, factual and clearer way.

Book? Think square bound pamphlet 19 Jan. 2010
By Sealed Fate - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My review is based more on the actual product and it's value, and in my opinion it's not a very good one. A very small,96 page square bound pamphlet. Not long enough to get too deep into any real type of analysis, as the title would leave you to believe ("Studying" Blade Runner).I've seen more thorough coverage in a magazine.Disappointing...

Studying Blade Runner by Sean Redmond. 12 Jan. 2013
By ponky - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Sean makes a mistake in the book he says. page 38 that gaps and enigmas that are not fully resolved ie=What happened to the 5th replicant that escapes and is never revealed in the film. 6 replicants escape and in the film Captain Bryant (M Emmet Walsh) explains that 2 got fried trying to break into the Tyrell building. that leaves 4, Batty-Leon-Pris and Zhora who Deckard retires. Had to grab this for a class but am happy to have used it. 2 Jun. 2013

Gives me good reason to consider some of the thoughts which went into the making of this film that I had missed on my own but which also make more sense with director's commentary of the film.
