I had been a fan of reggae for a number of years before this solid collection of rocksteady rarities got under my skin with its infectious grooves and sweet melodies. This album may not bowl you over all at once, but listen to it long enough (and late into the night) and Dodd's trademark soulful, mellow grooves will cast their spell on you. Besides...how can you do better than Clement Dodd's Studio One during the rocksteady era of Jamaican music??? Dodd seems to me, more than the other rocksteady producers (Duke Reid, Clancy Eccles), to have a sweet melancholy feel permeating his rocksteady era music. This is my ultimate chill album; it's laid-back and super cool--lacking that "jerky" quality I feel in much of rocksteady music. I've been a big fan of roots reggae music for over 15 years now and this album is, hands down, my all-time fave.
