Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Logic's Obsessive imprint more than proved itself through 2000, with a series of albums securing its reputation as a purveyor of the finest quality compilations. Studio 54 employs the talent of Kenny Carpenter, the respected club DJ and one time resident of the Studio 54, who puts together a lovingly authentic take on the music which dominated one of worlds' more infamous venues during the 80s. Those in search of Chic and Gloria Gaynor should turn their gaze elsewhere--this mix chops out the crowd pleasers with a series of tracks that reflect the musical eclecticism which reigned though New York at the time. As such the progressive synth-science of the opening Chas Jankel finds itself chased down by the ahead-of-its-time fusion of The Clash, before we see some no frills disco mayhem with Sparque's "Lets Go Dancing" and the sweaty jazz funk of "Take a Chance" courtesy of Pleasure. A supreme selection, as obscure as it is enjoyable. --Kingsley Marshall

A sublime collection of 80's Disco that gets better with every listen. Its an album you will cherish for many years. Buy it while you still can as vinyl orginals are like gold dust. Listening to this either takes you back or makes you wish you were there.

Wot...No Abba!!!! 28 Aug 2001
Format:Audio CD
Real disco from one of the masters...Carpenter captures the vibe with a sometimes obscure mix of underground classics. The journey begins with Chas Jankels 3,000,000 synths, a strange track which literally sounds like...3,000,000 synths!!As the disc progresses the real disco vibe prevails with the legendary Loleatta Holloways"Love Sensation", followed by quality tracks from Geraldine Hunt and D train. "I'm In Love" by Evelyn king brings a smile to any face and "Paradise" by The very much underrated Change will have you dancing in your chair. As the disc draws to its conclusion we're treated to a gem with T.S. Monks slow, seductive entry into "Candidate For Love"featuring superb female vocals Throw in a couple from MFSB and Second Image and the disc's complete. Not quite the Paradise Garage, but quality from start to finish none the less. Afro wigs and platform shoes need not apply!!!

Music from Studio 54's Reincarnation 2 Jun 2005
By Curtiss Burrell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Steve Rubel, the co-owner of Studio 54 was arrested, convicted and subsequently incarcerated for income tax evasion and drug possession. As a result, the legendary club closed in 1979.

Approximately 6 to 9 months latter, the establishment was re-opened by a producer by the name of Mike Stone. The reincarnated Studio 54 was more assessable to the general public and the sonic landscape shifted towards more ecletic, danceable music rather than the orthodox "disco" sound of the past. At this time, the club patrons were primarily African-American, Latino and/or Gay, who embraced the mucis played at clubs like Nicky Siano's Gallery & Buttermilk Bottom, Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and David Marcuso's mythical Loft parties.

Kenny Carpenter was the deejay at 54 during its reincarnated period (between 1980 & 1981) and this CD is reflective of the music played at the club during the aforementioned time frame.

DISCO FABULOUS! 2 May 2002
By STEPHEN PROOM - Published on Amazon.com

Picture the scene its a hot summer night, youre rubbing shoulders with the likes of Debbie harry, liza minelli, richard gere, and many fabulous glittery regulars, imagine youre in Studio 54.Well with this c.d imagine no more, from the funky opener 3000 synths to the disco shimmer of eveylyn kings "Im in love".This is hedonistic disco genius from the underground, which never sounded better. How can you resist the pulsing soul of D trains "Youre the one for me"In a rare extended form, its the first time I have heard a lot of these tracks in their undiluted glory.Other highlights include the Chic sounding "Id do anything for you"A classic peice of shimmering Disco. Also here is the classic "Love sensation"which of course was sampled on the Black Box cut "Ride on time".The c.d closes with "Cant keep holding on" by Second image which Im sure would be massive if anyone trawling through underground gems was looking to do a remake.I cant praise this selection enough! If you even have a passing interest in disco cultre you have to own this!

What The Hell........... 21 Jan 2007
By T. West - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Why in the world would a record company take the time to release this onto cd & package it up with a nice slipcase- but not clean up the sound?!? This music was taken directly from really bad vinyl- you get every hiss, pop, crackle and then some with the music. They could afford the packaging, but not the clean up of sound? This gets and deserves one star because the whole point of "cd" is that it's supposed to sound better than vinyl.
