Review

"After starring in the Million Dollar Traders BBC documentary, I am
often contacted by students who want to work with me in my Hedge Fund.
If only they followed some of the strategies that Simon Dixon outlines
in this book, they would stand a much better chance." --Lex van Dam, Hedge Fund Manager and author of 'How To Make Money Trading'.

"Having built a successful career in trading, I wish that I had been
handed this book when I was a student, my path to success would have
been cut in half. Simon shows you step by step how to make it in
banking and finance the entrepreneurial way and build a brand, rather
than a job. This will save you years." --Tom Hougaard, world famous trader as seen on Bloomberg, CNN and BBC.

"Having spent a year with the biggest Chicago pit traders and seen
first hand how careers have been destroyed or super-charged due to
changes in how to climb to the top in trading, those who have survived
the changes have adapted using some of the strategies that Simon Dixon
outlines in this book.

I would love to give a copy of this book to all the traders that I
know who have experienced less fortune.

A great guide to both the psychology and strategy of the most
successful in banking and finance and a must read for any ambitious
student." --James Allen Smith, Director of the movie 'Floored' based on the true stories of Chicago floor traders

"I once encountered a manager who when recruiting subsequent to
receiving huge numbers of CVs halved the pile and dumped one half in
the waste paper basket unread. When questioned about this process his
answer was 'I don't want to recruit someone that is unlucky'! It was a
harsh selection process. I hope anyone who reads this book does not encounter similar recruitment policies.

In the case of finding a job you can however improve your 'luck'.
Exhibiting knowledge of the firm, the job and the sphere of work
together with a professional CV can improve your chances of success
many fold. Simon Dixon's book is invaluable for anyone seeking a job
in today's employment climate." --Peter Hargreaves, founder and CEO of FTSE Wealth Management Institution Hargreaves Lansdown

"An invaluable guide to making it big in banking and finance. Written
specifically for the new generation graduate trying to make sense of
the post credit crunch economy, it takes a truly original approach to
careers advice. Rather than churning out the same old platitudes it
gives a step by step guide to success based on genuine insider
insights." --Mike Harris, founding CEO of three multi billion pound business including the first internet bank, Egg, and the first telephone bank, First Direct.

It has been one year since I read the book "From Student to CEO" and every single day I have been thinking about the things Simon says in it. Simon Dixon changed my views on life, he changed every way I think about the world. I want to say a big THANK YOU, Simon, because you were my sole inspiration, and now, a year later, I have just received an offer for a summer internship in a prestigious department of one of the most powerful buy-side financial institutions in the world. I had to work very hard to get it, but my inspiration was your speech at a University organised seminar, and afterwards, the book. Thank you, Simon, I owe you big time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Read 20 Jan 2013
By B. Khan

As someone that shares a similar academic background to Simon, this book entirely changed my mindset on not only the financial industry, but how I go about most tasks in life...studies, relationships, athletics, etc. I actually came across Simon and his work through my mum who did a course with him during her MBA and greatly recommended him, which led to me buying this in the first place.

There is an immense amount of information condensed into this handy little book, I can safely say that I've learnt more about the financial industry and its segments and functions from this than in my degree so far (I study Economics & Finance...so that's saying a lot). Simon has a knack for saying just enough rather than sugar-coating with a load of unnecessary drivel, he tells you what you NEED to know...the important stuff, and how to achieve it through atypical means. That's what I would say is most important in this book for anyone that isn't at Oxbridge or an Ivy League school, how to differentiate yourself and become a better applicant than the ones with the better education! The book itself covers all the bases in what you need to know about the industry and actually helped me decide which particular part of the industry I want to go into as well (beforehand I was just one of the "I'd like to be a banker for the money" types, now I have an actual and genuine interest). Also a great personality developer, you learn how to prioritise your tasks and really aim for your goals. Sure, plenty of books try to tell you that, but this one really stuck with me and I managed to apply it too.

Brilliant read, recommended to anyone struggling to secure a job in the sector (through my application of what I've learnt I've secured interviews with large asset management firms which I have over the coming weeks), or just a student who needs to know more about what they're getting into and how to best go about it. Concise and accurate, what else could you ask for in under a tenner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Student to CEO - Turning thoughts into action 24 Jun 2012

In my opinion, this book contains a lot of useful information condensed effectively into very few pages. It can be used by anyone looking to be successful in every aspect of life, not necessarily banking and finance. The author explains some of the concepts that are necessary in achieving success in banking and finance. Coming from an engineering background, i throughly enjoyed the book because the tools are applicable to all different facets of life. I would definitely recommend this book to any person looking for a way or how to gain the competitive edge and mindset in the current economic climate we are in today.
