Book Description

When jockey Paul Raven gets caught up in the dangerous world of gambling, the stakes are high... and deadly

Product Description

When Paul Raven's ride at Plumpton crashes through the wing of the third last flight, it seems like one of racing's tragic accidents. But that doesn't explain why Paul's closest friend, Alex Drew, appears to be involved. Or why the fall that ends Paul's career should finally destroy Alex. Paul discovers a link between what happened at Plumpton and a sequence of other accidents apparently connected with a private poker school run by the wealthy property developer Clay Wentworth. Stud Poker seems to have little to do with the world of National Hunt racing, but by the time Paul is caught up in the dangerous game, other less honest players have stepped forward. And the stakes are high.

Loving Johns books. With a love of horses, horse racing and crime thrillers these are perfect for me. Every bit as good as Dick and Felix Francis (another favourite)

As usual all the twists and turns, just when you thought you had it worked out, then another turn to keep you guessing, really great read disappointed when it ended.

As a fan of John Francome's books I enjoyed this book. It is not one of his best and follows a somewhat meandering course but it keeps you engrossed until the end.

Having been an avid reader of Dick Francis I was a bit sceptical about reading John Francombes work but it is brilliant every bit as dramatic as Dick Francis, great storylines that grip the reader to the end, stunning reading
