I was first mesmerised and terrified by Dr. Heinrich Hoffman's cautionary tales as a seven year old. Reading the book as an adult brought back the thrill of seeing the disobedient, rude and stupid recieve their just punishment in such gory and vivid detail. The original 5 colour illustrations enrich the experience further. Hoffman's tales are on a par with Roald Dahl's "Revolting Rhymes", but much darker and scarier. Read them at your peril!

This is a wonderful book I remembered from my childhood. With stories of naughty children and the possible consequences of being naughty. It has great illustrations which are let down by this very small version, four times smaller than the one I owned.
Still a good book but since the illustrations are so vital, left feeling seriously disappointed by its size. Marked down for this reason.

This is a great book and I would highly recommend it. It is full of wonderful morality tales in rhyming form for children. It is beautifully illustrated with cautionary tales for thumb-sucking soup refusing children.

Both my nine year old and three year old love it.
