Product Description

Product Description

For sophomore/senior-level courses in Computer Organization and Architecture.

This best-selling modern introduction to computer hardware and architecture provides a structured approach to computer architecture, presenting a computer as a series of layers, each built upon the ones below and each understandable as a separate entity. The book is written in a style and level of detail that covers all the major areas, but is still accessible to a broad range of students. It is specifically written for undergraduate students rather than adapted from a graduate-level text.

5.0 out of 5 stars I strongly receommend this book..., 12 Feb 2001
This book basically details the different levels that make up a computer, each one performing a specific function. The examples used throughout the book are the Pentium II, Sun Ultrasparc II and the Java Virtual Machine. Even if you are not studying a degree in computing but have a general interest in the way a computer works you will find this an excellent book that will teach you so much more than you would have expected to learn by such an enjoyable read.

It is written in a very easy to read style - unlike many other computing books I have seen so far during my course. For the first time I actually enjoyed reading a book of this kind. It is rare to find a writing style such as this especially when the subject area is rather complex. I found myself actually 'taking in' all the information whilst reading whereas with many other books, as you may have found yourselves, you have to read a paragraph more than once for it to actually make complete sense. This book manages to keep your attention, and is therefore one i would strongly recommend to any computing student and also, as I mentioned above, to any person who has an interest in computing. You don't need to have studied any computing before to be able to pick this book up and teach yourself!
