5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic second volume 28 Feb 2012
By Parka HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
Length: 1:24 Mins
This is a nice sequel to the first Structura art book. It's slightly thicker with more content.

This book focuses on concept art for sci-fi and environment. There are spaceships flying off from the many sleek locations conceived by Sparth. The environment paintings are mainly of desolate but exotic landscapes.

I notice he likes to use a lot of dark colours and black to make other colours stand out. Even for the cover, it's mostly black with blue tint as colour.

Some illustrations use a different but refreshing style. There are some experimental sketches done using Alchemy drawing software which look very much like manga style because of the outlines. Those look great. There are also some beautiful paintings created using just squares and rectangles.

The last chapter features 4 insightful examples complete with steps showing his process.

This is another delightful art book. Recommended to those who like of sci-fi and environment art.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting... 11 Jun 2012
By Marceluwool - Published on Amazon.com

Well...
This book wasn't what I expected.

Now, talking about the book.
In my opinion, this book repeats the same flaws of the first one.
The pages should be larger as well as the images. Some of the artwork were scaled down to very minimum sizes (like 2 or 3 inches), and I'm talking about most of the artwork. And in my opinion, it's very bad to see a concept art in the size of a social network avatar.
It looks like they tried to stuff all the sci-fi works of Sparth in a little space just to say it is there in the book.

I would prefer if there was half of the pictures, but in bigger sizes.
And there's a LOT of blank spaces in the pages. These spaces could be filled with texts explaining about the concept art, like most (or ALL) of the art books out there.

Now, I have to talk about the content.
I was expecting a great variet of works, and not only sci-fi dark environments with a spaceship in the center.
I'm sure Sparth doesn't have only this kind of work and it's really boring to see more than 200 pages of only this.
I see some different art in the book, but they are really really scaled down.
If you are looking for references for creating sci-fi stuff, this book may help you, but you won't find interiors, weapons, characters, and anything but open dark environments.

I'm a very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Sparth, more good 23 Jan 2012
By C. MERRITT - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Sparth nails it again. What must come from deep inside company vaults of classified concepts, is revealed to us. Thank you Mr. Big GameStudios for allowing us to see these great early ideas before they're turned into 3d shooters.

I would have loved more figures, but this book is mostly environments and space ships. If you don't like landscapes and space travel, avoid this book. But if you're like the rest of us, Sparth brings his wonderful European vision to a predominantly American arena. Sure Steambot delivers a kindred vision too, but who doesn't love both. (I do)
5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant artist 14 April 2014
By Todd Groves - Published on Amazon.com

There are only a handful of artists that I follow with any consistency. Sparth is one of them. Viewing any of his pieces, I find myself immersed in his worlds and never wanting to leave. Only to glance over at the next piece, and drifting into that world for an untold amount of time. As a fellow artist, I dream of creating pieces as engaging and moving as Sparth's. Enjoy.
5.0 out of 5 stars great work of art 7 Mar 2014

I was hanging out with a friend one day who had this book, and after just seeing the last part of the book i knew i had to have it. Dabbling in concept art myself, I study the pages of this book for their integrated and embedded knowledge. I have much thanks for Sparth, this book he's gifted us, and his candid attitude through which he shares priceless knowledge.
