This horrible misfire from the usually reliable writer-director Andrew Bergman (The Freshman) has nothing funny, provocative, timely or interesting to say (despite being based on a novel by Carl Hiaasen) once Demi Moore gets her clothes off. Moore plays a single, unemployed mum caught up in a custody battle who elects to make some money by stripping at a club. The character's troubles don't end there, however: her ex-husband is posing a threat, and a perverted congressman (Burt Reynolds) is looking for more than a lap dance. Bergman's great wit is nowhere in sight, and the film primarily becomes another opportunity for Moore to function like a special effect. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

I have enjoyed this movie ever since I first viewed it. And the main reason is Demi Moore. She has obviously done her homework and her dancing is quite literally, stunning. She is truly superb as one of the sleasy nightclub pole dancers and I appreciate an actor who has taken the time to experience the real thing and then gets it spot on when required.
Some of the support cast leave things to be desired. Moore's estranged husband is not the best drunk/druggy I've ever seen and Bert Reynolds portrayal of the congressman couldn't have been more hammed up if the producers had tried. And even with an indifferent script, Moore holds it all together so as not to allow these annoyances to ruin this otherwise enjoyable comedy/drama.
Overall, a pretty good movie with Moore's "chair dance" being one of the most sensual acts I have seen in a loooong time!!

Despite the lousy reviews I enjoyed the film, and can easily associate it with the works of Mr Hiassen, which are a similar mix of detective thriller and the absurd. It isn't 5 star material but it's a lot better than much of today's output. Yes, OK, you could cut 15 minutes of topless pole dancing, and not lose any of the plot, but that's about the worst you can say about it.
Burt Reynolds hams it up, and nearly everyone else is playing caricature parts too, but so what .. it wasn't intended to be great art.

I never understood the poor reviews this film is getting. It must be snobbery. Obviously if a major star is near-nude in a film, she has "sold out".
I enjoyed the film. It is funny, and Demi looks great. Burt is excellent.

Demi Moore looking good!
