From the opening slow introduction of the Assai Sostenuto to the final closing Allegro of Op135 you are aware that you are experiencing perfection. They may not have the charisma of the Lindsey's dynamics but they don't need it. Every style is heard in these late quartets and the Borodins excel at each and everyone. I have since purchased many other Beethoven quartets, but always find myself lured back to these examples as nothing else seems to offer the absolute intensity of beauty and expression while maintaining Beethovens genius use of contrast. It is impossible to be disappointed.

The Borodins have certainly made these masterpieces their own. Well recorded and deeply felt, these performances rank among the very best and are more enjoyable to listen to than most others; this applies to every disc in the cycle, and I cannot see how anyone would be dissatisfied with the purchase of the entire cycle. I give it my highest recommendation
