Product Description

All 12 episodes from the second series of the Japanese anime about a crack team of young girls who take on alien invaders using magic powers. In 1939 a war began that rendered traditional military capabilities redundant. The brutal alien race Neuroi destroyed a number of cities and took control of the world. The hopes of the human survivors now rest with the so-called 'Strike Witches', a group of young girls who are sent into the skies to fight back against the aliens with their magic powers. The episodes are: 'Into the Sky Once More', 'The Legendary Witches', 'Things We Can Accomplish Together', 'Harder, Faster, Greater', 'My Romagna', 'Higher Than the Sky', 'Creeping About', 'Please Grant Me Wings', 'The Bridge to Tomorrow', '500 Overs', 'To Be Myself' and 'Beyond the Skies to Eternity'.

4.0 out of 5 stars The war continues 29 Oct 2012
By T. R. Alexander TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
While trying to make peaceful contact with the Neuroi, a unit of witches encounters a new and more aggressive Neuroi Hive that destroys its predecessor and continues the war against humanity. Meanwhile back in Fuso, Yoshika Miyafuji receives another mysterious letter from her dead father and together with Mayor Sakamoto, journeys to Romagna to reform the 501st Joint Fighter Wing in order to fight the invaders.

This twelve episode second season of the 'Strike Witches' anime is another very entertaining season. The action takes off where the previous season finished and sees the reforming of the Strike Witches as they fight against the new enemy. The animation and the voice acting of the English dub are just as good, if not better than, the previous season (the Japanese is includes as well of course). The comedy in the series is a bit hit and miss with some nicely funny moments throughout but others where it feels like it is trying a bit too much. The season also has a high amount of fanservice which won't be to everyone's tastes.

While the action of the series is very good, much of the focus of the episodes is often on the life of the Strike Witches between battles while training, shopping or trying out new equipment. There are also an interesting subplot that sees Major Sakamoto dealing with the fact that her magical power is steadily decreasing and her attempts to perfect an ultimate technique that could change the course of the war before her magic goes completely.

The only real problem I have with the season, and the series as a whole, is that I feel there are some plot points, characters and events that could have been developed better but this is only to be expected from a twelve episode season so it is only a minor irritation.

Although I would say it probably isn't quite as good as the first season it is still very good and anyone who enjoyed the previous season should also enjoy this one. I would say that the season is worth around four stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fan service? 16 April 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh man, not again?, nope it's worse,

Hmmm? Maybe they should be calling this Fan-ny Service?

I would have been happy to give this four out of five stars, but this season felt like more of an after thought,
Instead of building directly upon the previous story it seems they decided to move in a different direction,
which was a parallel to the first, "second verse same as the first verse" but don't get me wrong this is still a good series (if you can forgive the heavy fan service) I just wish they would have taken things in a more diverse direction,

But if they continue to increase the level of fan service the third season would be my last,....maybe fourth...the fifth tops I swear!....(I jest)

It is off putting to me, this is not what I want in my anime,

But I did find something that fans of this series would like,
It's sort of like the spiritual progenitor of this show,
It pre dates it by a number of years,
It's a lot like Strike Witches, but a lot lot better,

It's a series called,

SKY GIRLS

If Strike Witches has a more fantasy base with it's focus on magic girls,
Sky Girls is more Sci/Fi, instead of Striker Units, they have Sonic Divers,
Instead of fur ears and a tail they have a high tech flight suit (that look a bit like ears and a tail, due to a major part in the flight control systems of the Sonic Divers being a thought controlled interface)

This series has everything good that is in Strike Witches and then some, it's smarter in storyline and characters, fuller and richer in every way, even the humor is more sophisticated (and practical no fan service,)

This is what I was really looking for,

Try and get to see this show if you can, if you are a fan of Strike Witches you will love SKY GIRLS,
(And to any Anime House out there reading this, get this, dub this, you will make money on this, look at how well Strike Witches sells, and this show is far superior in every way, (and if you don't believe me check out the crazy prices the related merchandise is selling for, there is a demand but not a supply)

For further information on this please look up SKY GIRLS on WIKI
And don't miss out on this awesome show,

(I may expand on this review later as time permits)
