No it's not easy... but swing and stride piano is technically demanding! I don't know of any other book that offers so much useful information on the styles of James P Johnson, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson and Art Tatum. Their styles are broken down into the essential elements and 'soundalike' pieces are both on the CD and scored in the book. A very good starting point for learning about these important early jazz pianists. At the price an absolute bargain.

Hard work! 5 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I am only a very moderate piano player and found most of the pieces in this book too difficult for me. I've recorded some on a midi keyboard - which enables me to play each hand seperately then combine the two to hear what the piece should sound like.
Some of the compositions are pale imitations of the real thing -I would have preferred it if the composer had written something more original.
The practice pages give good advice, but you still need to have above-average dexterity to be able to maange them.
The biographical copy is interesting.
Overall, unless you are an above-average piano player, then you will find this book hard going.
